“Disappointing”
Reviewed 6 October 2012

No one was demonstrating anything! Too commercialized! Castle visit was ok although there was few staff to help with congestion on the stairways.

“Very interesting”

Very weird and interesting pieces of machinery on display. You could spend hours trying to figure out what each one was used for once upon a time.

“Very interesting and worthwhile day out”
Reviewed 4 October 2012

I recently visited Bunratty Castle and Folk park. I thought it would be just another ruin of a historic castle however, it turned out to be a great day. It was actually very interesting. You get a map on the way in which tells you what each cottage/building was in it's day and tells a story of what type of people would have lived in each one i.e fisherman, cobbler, doctor etc. If you follow the path through all the cottages you come to the castle. Again, if you follow the map, you can visit each room in the castle and find out who slept where and what each room was used for. There are still costumes and furniture in the rooms as it would have been when the castle was occupied. You can even visit the dungeons but you need to be quite brave to do this, The castle has very narrow spiral staircases so if you suffer from claustrophobia or are a large person it may not be a great idea to climb them. I found going up was not too bad but coming down was a little tough. There is a little cottage in the middle of the Folk park where you can see a very friendly lady demonstrating how the bread and scones were once cooked on stones on an open fire, Around the back of this you can go and have a beautiful freshly baked scone/brown bread (baked in a real oven) with butter, jam and a pot of tea . My mouth is watering just remembering it now! It was delicious. There is also an old style saloon where you can have a pint of Guinness with home cooked food. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and would go back again. It is a fantastic tourist spot if you have visitors over and are trying to entertain them.
