“Interesting, different, but not much to see...”
Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed close by and made a stop in here one morning. Maybe it’s because of the time of day we went, but it didn’t impress. They make only a very sweet mead and a harsh protean, both worth trying only to say you did. The area is interesting looking and worth a quick drop-in, but seemed just an extension of the over-priced park next door.

“Save your time!”
Reviewed 21 March 2009

There is no tour here. Only a sample (thimbleful) of Mead you can get at the Woolen Mills. You can also sample the Irish version of grain alcohol here. It's to the right of the Castle entrance and won't take more than 2 minutes but I think it's still a waste of time.

“A must for honeymooners!”
Reviewed 28 January 2009

Mead is the key to a honeymoon.
It was an Irish tradition that coined the term honeymoon.
A groom and his bride would drink mead for a moon after the wedding in celebration . Mead made from grape and honey together with the moon or night became honeymoon. A process many centuries perfected, Irish mead has as much history as the monks who made it. Bunratty Mead is a very fine example and the winery a hidden jewel of the region. We sampled Potcheen, Irish moonshine, which is now legal. We very much enjoyed ourselves at the winery and found the clerk very helpful and polite.
