“It's nearly a little gem”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

Stayed for two nights last weekend for a Bridge competition taking place in Ballybunion.
Quite honestly, having only peaked in the door last year I did not have much expectation but I was in for a more than pleasant surprise. The ground floor has been completely renovated and now has a wonderful boutique atmosphere to it. The staff manage a wonderful blend of being friendly and helpful without being overly formal or in your face. Breakfast was at a Cafe down the road, also owned by the hotel. At first, I was not too keen on this but it's a very short walk and one nicely scrambled egg and three coffees later I was more than happy. There was lots more to chose from and service was fast and friendly. Upstairs at the hotel is still quite different and dated. Rooms are basic and need upgrading but I understand that this is planned and by next year all will be upgraded. Carpets and mattresses need replacing but the basics are good. Clean sheets and a clean bathroom so for the price I paid (€40 single B&B) I really couldn't find fault. I didn't eat at the hotel as we had other pre-planned arrangements but I was sorry I couldn't. Based on what I heard from others who did, the food is close to outstanding !
With a view that you could not put a price on and if the bedrooms are upgraded, The Marine will be the true accommodation (as well as restaurant) destination venue of Ballybunion in the years to come.

Room Tip: As for one with a sea view - not sure that they all do but mine did and it was glorious

We have been coming to Ireland for the past 10 years and every year it gets better. We had stayed here in the past and always had a great time. This trip was a larger group than usual (16 guys) and I was a little nervous about what effect we would have on the "New" Reastraunt and Lounge Area.
Derek and the Staff were incredible with every thing from check-in till check out. "Try to organize 16 golfing guys to sit down for Dinner and have everyone happy" People always ask me hows the food in Ireland ? The Fish is so fresh and the Steaks melted in your mouth.
Of course, when in Ireland you have to sing a few songs and you do not want to be the 1st to go to bed? The town also has so much to do with the Beach right across the street and many Pubs and other things to do. Can't wait to go back !!

Room Tip: All Rooms have Ocean View.Fitness center and pool not on site but you do have access to local Fitnes...

This well renovated restaurant offers a mainly seafood menu. The atmosphere is welcoming and vibrant. The decor is fresh and modern with live piano music, wheather you like it or not. The food was very good however, the tempura prawns were NOT in a tempura batter. They shared the same thick beer batter as the fish and chips. This is an unforgivable misrepresentation. For this blatant failing - one black mark. Otherwise a good meal.

17 of us ate here on Saturday 3rd August - great food (I had steak and lobster which was delicious); also great service topped off by a sing along to finish off the evening!
I didn't stay here, just ate.

Compliments to the chef and also the friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended for any golf groups. Everything you could want is here.
