“Decent spot for a weekend getaway with the dogs”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2009

My husband and I stayed here for a night on a weekend trip with another couple. We stayed in the cottage next to the main house, which was a decent size for four people and 2 dogs. We got the bigger bedroom so were more comfortable than our friends, who had a smaller room with two twin beds. Both rooms were ensuite and the showers were decent. Everything was clean bot nothing too fancy. I was pleasantly surprised to see instructions on where to recycle, compost and dispose of your own waste, so they are making an effort in that department. Getting into town was a bit of a hassle as we didn't exactly know where we were going and had to turn around a few times, but we figured it out easily enough. It took about 15 minutes to drive to Kinsale and, once we got there, we had a few awkward turns due to detours because the whole town centre was torn up to repair water pipes, I believe. It was nice to have our own kitchen and sitting room, as well as tons of land to tire the dogs out on. The host was a bit flighty- it was their first weekend putting their boat in the water so they were in and out running around. We didn't do breakfast since they were so busy and she couldn't remember what price she quoted for us so make sure to bring an email confirmation when arriving! No real complaints- it was worth it for a quiet weekend getaway.

Beautiful old house, outside Kinsale so would need transport to get there, taxis available
Very welcoming (including our dog) & individual place to stay
Staff helpful
Breakfast great with lots of choice
Extremely relaxing!
Visited the week after Kinsale food week - town being dug up which made it less attractive however didn't take away from our visit
Spoiled for choice with restaurants, Fishy fishy - very good food but service poor,

Beautiful location - in West Cork,. close to Bandon, Kinsale, Clonakilty and plenty of other scenic and ideallic areas. The house was nice,.room was nice,. there was plenty of art covering the walls,.however I couldn't help noticing so many features of the building that were not old,.which I thought was a pity- such as plasic pvc fascia etc,..you might be gathering by now that I am interested in heritage, buildings and I haven't yet, but will express, my interest in the environment. Here it comes, the bedroom had a sign on the shower,.something to the effect of the following "Please note we are an environmentally friendly establishment so please leave used towels in the shower tray on departure" - meanwhile there were 5 trad style or 'incandescant' light bulbs in the bedroom,..this annoyed me - pointed to the fact that they are not as environmentally friendly as they say they are - as energy efficient lighting would save more energy - ((but perhaps not as much money - for them?)) Maybe I am wrong - However, I did not leave a note to this effect and in hindsight should have. Overall,.the area is beautiful and the owner/owners made an effort with the gardens and the food was devine- and that's just breakfast I am talking. We arrived (foolishly) without booking dinner and only tasted breakfast, we were told dinner was only served to people who travelled long distances or found it difficult to move about - the breakfast menu is much more extensive and seductive than any hotel I have stayed in, I was dissapointed to have missed dinner but can understand if one hasn't booked in advance, however I hadn't read on the website that it was served to only those with problems moving about - but to be fair I was told if we had diffivulty finding somewhere that something would be cooked for us - All in All - I wouldn't go back there again - someplace for the older travelling I think, there were a few American Travelers there, who also appeared to be loving it. I hope this review is of some benefit. I should have mentioned that our reception there was not amazing and little words passed between proprietor and us. Wasn't 'Family Type Reception' we thought it would be on website. I think it might be one of these places,.that you need to 'see for yourself'.

Stopped for one night on a trip around West Cork. This guest house is very peaceful, on the edge of a small village that is easily reached by foot. On arrival we were immediately made welcome and guided to the lounge for tea and biscuits. Evening meal can be booked in advance and you are welcome to bring your own wine - we dined alone but the hospitality and food were excellent. In keeping with the age of the property our room was spacious and the bathroom a little dated but we loved the character and decor of the house. The choice of breakfasts was delightful.

  • Liked — Tea and biscuits on arrival was just great
  • Disliked — Cracked windows gave a bad first impression

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at this gorgeous country house as a little treat in January. It was like being Lord and Lady of the manor, guests are given free run of the house (two massive reception rooms) and gardens. Breakfasts are gorgeous and well thought out, who would have thought you could beat the traditional Irish breakfast (although this is also on offer). The rooms are all individually decorated by the incredibly arty Gill, some of her art pieces can be spotted around the house. The location is perfect for a relaxing week in the countryside, Ballinadee is a tiny typical Irish village where the traditional pub is still alive and well. Kinsale, Clonakilty, Cork city and some of Ireland's most beautiful countryside are all around waiting to be explored. If you want calm you won't be disappointed. We will definately be back.

A beautiful old Georgian Rectory with self-catering coach house accommodation. We stayd in a lovely one bedroom flat in the former rectory stables. The flat was spacious, nicely decorated, came with all mod cons from a dishwasher to an iron and was immaculately clean! We were welcomed by Gill, the proprietor who had arranged 'rationings' for us -milk bread, that sort of thing, which was a nice surprise and it was fantastic to be able to let the kids out of the front door and not to worry about them. The garden was huge and there was plenty of room for them to play football etc. I would go back tomorrow !
