Our monthly meeting of our vintage bike club was decided to be held in Dooley's Hotel. On this cold and dreary morning we had 13 of the group show up. We had lads from Mayo, Trim, Navan, Wicklow, Tipperary, Dublin, Kilkenny. This was something special of a Breakfast meet up as one of out members had recently returned to Saudi Arabia to work and was home for a week to finalise things so it was his special day and the Hotel did him proud. The staff were overwhelmingly warm with welcome, banter and chat. We are never sure exactly how many will show up due to weather etc. so we needed our table extended and this was adhered to in seconds. The quality, amount of food and the warmth of the food was superb. The oncoming of Tea, Coffee, Brown Bread, Toast was very well welcomed when you were after doing around 90 miles on a bike on a cold morning. Well done to all involved and we will return again for sure.

An excellent hotel well located with friendly staff and good food.I would happily stay there again. There was some noise from the adjoining night club but I was warned about this on checking in and I happily stayed in the same room a second night despite being offered the option of moving to another room

I stayed here for one night and liked the fact that it's in a central location of the town and an easy stroll to the castle, pubs, and so on. Unfortunately, I stayed on a Saturday when they have 'disco night' (I thought discos were long gone, but go figure). The hotel clerk warned me and put me up on the third floor, but I still heard the boom of the bass in the early morning hours, although it wasn't too bad -- at least it was a steady rhythm I could go to sleep on. The room was lovely, with a very big, comfortable bed and windows that opened up to the square. The only drawback was that some of the lights didn't turn on, so the room was dark when it could have been cozier. The television didn't have many channels. The elegant breakfast buffet and Irish breakfast were wonderful -- I especially loved the fact that there were glass jars of local yogurt! I tried the lemon curd, and it was great. Hotel personnel were very pleasant, the bar was lively, and the common room with the fireplace was inviting. They also have their own parking lot. Overall, it was a nice experience.

Great position....right in the middle of Birr in the square. A choice of pub meals or a coffee shop and they have a superb huge outdoor area out the back which was a great surprise. Typical of Ireland it has plants, pots and greenery. During the Vintage Fair Week they had a band but unsure if this is usual. They also offer accommodation but am unsure what that is like. Birr, however is a delightful village.
