“Good place to stay with family”
Reviewed 11 October 2011

Recently stayed here for a family gathering, we had a 3 bedroom house for 6 adults and two young kids. The house was warm and well equipped and made the perfect base for our stay, while we did not get involved in any of the activities offered there seamed plenty to do on the property. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and was very pleased with the food and service we received.

Just returned from a one week break with my my wife and three children (4, 2, 3 months).
We wanted a relaxing break so resort activities such as boats, archery were not interesting.
Good
House was fine and clean. Good location for Wicklow mountain drives, lakes.
Friendly staff. Playground was fine.
Animals on site, hens goats. Nice for kids.
Bad
Pool is constant depth of 1.4m. No shallow end. Unsuitable for toddlers. Big dissapointment. No family changing room. Bar service (food) really slow.
Could not lock house doors internally. Kids could easily open them. Locked by knobs not keys.
Showers in house are useless.
One night was really noisy. If there are functions in the main bar this place could be a nightmare at night.

I would be afraid to recommend this at peak times.

I was at a hen in Avon Ri last weekend. The 3 bed houses were excellent! extremely well kitted out, with 2 ensuites and a large bathroom! The surrounding area is so beautiful, with gorgeous views of the lake! Breakfast was a continental one, with pastries/toast & cereals on offer! We got a bus to Naas on the saturday night, organised by Avon Ri, Naas is only a 15-20min drive away. We also had a delcious dinner on the saturday night that was included in the price. €140 for 2 nights B&B, evening dinner and 3 activities (kayaking, Segway & orienteering). We;d an instructor called Brian who was sound out!

Was guest at wedding there a month ago, drink was very expensive to top it off they ran out of drink during the night and everyone had to go to second bar which was breaking up the crowd. Felt so sorry for bar staff...because there was no sign of bar manager!

We had a lovely weekend here. Very impressed with the accommodation, spacious and spotless. Very quiet, no noise to disturb your sleep. All the staff were very helpful and nice at all times in reception, leisure centre and bar. The boys did the activity day with Stephen and both were very happy with their day. The bar food was enjoyed by all too. Would recommend the Avon Ri to any family who enjoy the outdoors.

I have stayed at the Avon Ri with my family every year since 2008. It is extremely convenient for visiting relatives and for the glorious surrounding countryside. It is also marvellous for a big family that can save money by self-catering. The bar and restaurant are friendly, well staffed and the food is excellent, (though not as cheap as some on here suggest!) We have used the activity centre and that too was tremendous fun. It seems a shame to complain but there are a few things that could be done to make this place outstanding. First sort out the swimming pool and changing rooms. My children have been told off for not wearing swim-caps (in England they're not compulsory) but no one seems to bother about the changing rooms which have been filthy every time we've stayed. Secondly the houses do have practically everything you need but the TVs are out of the ark and the reception is poor. Some coathooks on the hall wall would be nice and some more subtle lighting. Finally you sometimes feel, reflected by some comments on here, that you're not as important as the next thing they're doing - whether preparing for weddings and leaving men and machinery all over the place, or, back to the pool, having workmen fixing the side, walking in and out with their shoes on. Sometimes you feel you're living on the estate the hotel resembles rather than in a hotel.

Myself my wife and six firends dines at your restaurant on new years eve and we had a splendid meal. Everything was top class and I would highly recommend your hotel. The food was absolutely gorgeous and the wine. Pity we had to leave before the champaign on the night, but we got stuck for time. Overall a great night and we will be back. Definitely. One of the best places around.
