My partner and I have just returned from a lovely 3-night stay at Cahergal Farmhouse.
We were in the area for a friend's wedding at Dromoland Castle and wanted to find somewhere that wasn't the Inn at Dromoland (where most other guests were staying). Boy, were we pleased with our choice, main reasons being: i) LOCATION - just five minutes drive from the castle and surrounded by beautiful countryside; ACCOMMODATION - our room (Blair Rose) was large with high ceilings and adjoining large bathroom and very clean/comfortable. We also had a gorgeous view out the front of cows, their calves, and horses; BREAKFAST - plenty available (choice of cereals; beautiful Irish breakfast consisting of sausage, bacon, black and white pudding, fried egg, tomato and toast; home-baked scones and jam; tea/coffee; juice) and you can eat as much or little as you wish; HOSTS - Noreen and Michael are great. Noreen is on hand to help out if you need it (thanks for setting up the iron for us!) but not in your face. She's also brilliant at recommending good places to eat and local attractions.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back with bells on. Many friends stayed at the Inn at Dromoland and complained about the paper-thin walls (they could even hear people going to the loo!), particularly given that it was more expensive and not remotely as authentically Irish and welcoming.
Therefore thank you, Noreen, Michael and family ... you made our visit a real pleasure and we'll definitely come stay with you again if over your way.
