“Not what we expected”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We had never stayed in a castle and thought no trip to Ireland would be complete without a try. Based upon the price and reviews we thought the accommodations were going to be exceptions but that wasn't the case. Our room was small and very crowded with big furniture. The bed was comfortable but there was no a/c and very poor circulation even with the two fans they brought in. Which made sleeping in July very tough. The bathroom was a nice size but nothing special. The staff was excellent and the grounds including the gardens were beautiful. Make sure you get a deal.

Dear Ggirl954

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Dromoland Castle, I am very sorry that your accommodations did not meet your expectations.

We did experience some very uncharacteristic humid weather conditions in July and struggled to keep some areas of the hotel cool but did our upmost to keep all our guests as comfortable as possible.

We appreciate your feedback and I will discuss your comments with the team at our weekly management meeting.

I hope if you are traveling in Ireland again we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to visit us.

Sincerely

Mark Nolan - General Manager

We just returned to Dromoland after 26 years and 2 grown kids. They have renovated the Castle and built on to it but it is what a castle stay should be! Be sure to dine in the formal dinning room - business casual is fine - no tie required...but the food is outstanding - have the Veal! The grounds are incredible and there are so many activities to keep you busy OR not. The gardens are beautiful just to stroll in or take afternoon tea. While the staff is overall fantastic - John the Doorman is still here after 26 years...the bar staff could be a little more friendly and more attentive. If you are a golfer - you find no better courses in all of Ireland. They do need to update their scotch whisky selection - they did not have Dalmore but I made do with a Macallen 24.

This may be the most romantic place you can take your significant other for a Royal Experience.

Dromoland Castle is a treat if you can afford to splurge and stay a night you should! The grounds are beautiful, the service is top notch and the food is exceptional. It is a relaxing and magical place with stuff to do there. Our room was spacious, beautiful and the beds are very comfortable. Didn't golf but used the indoor pool which was very nice. I would stay here again -- one of the best 5 star hotels I've stayed at!

Our ladies golf club visited Dromoland golf club recently. What a wonderful experience . From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed. Part of the deal included breakfast and evening meal. Both meals were superb. The golf course is fantastic if a little long. The walled gardens alone are worth a visit. Will definitely be back .

This hotel is among the best 5-star hotels we've been to. The grounds are beautiful, the castle is grand, the service is impeccable, and the food is wonderful. My husband and I stayed here for four nights (August 8 to 12) while we toured the sites on the West Coast, and we are already dreaming of going back. You just feel like you want to feel when staying at a 5-star hotel and are treated as such too. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and I must call out Pamela, who was so nice and went above and beyond about a request we made about our room, and the manager of the restaurant at breakfast, who was always chipper and friendly and who brought my husband six golf balls, when he mentioned he was going to play. All hotels should aspire to serve their guests as they do at Dromoland. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Highly recommend staying at this hotel and enjoying the Dromoland experience. We have stayed here a few times. The first time we stayed in a Queen Anne room which was across the courtyard through a connecting corridor, comfortable furnishing and room with character. On a return visit we stayed in a luxurious and magical suite in the tower, which were upgraded to on a complimentary basis due to very special occasion. On a further return visit we were also upgraded to a large suite which was very opulent. Breakfast is the best we have ever experienced in a hotel with a fantastic variety of fruit, pastries, hot and cold options. Service is excellent and staff are very accommodating. I could not recommend this hotel enough. It is also a lovely place to go for afternoon tea in the gallery or drawing, either way visiting Dromoland Castle is a must!

Room Tip: Tower suite is magical. Rooms are very opulent. If you can go for a room in the main castle building...
