“Not impressed......”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2014

Overpriced for the services, facilities offered. Unless you play golf, I did not find this property to have a lot to offer in the way of activities and the activities that were offered were costly. The property itself need to be refreshed. The spa just okay. I felt like my service was rushed and the relaxation room chairs need to be replaced/updated.

Dear dochutchnord2014

I was very sorry to read your review on your recent stay with us.

We have many complimentary activities available for guests such as cycling, tennis, row boats on Lough Dromoland, bank fishing, garden tours (seasonal), fully equipped leisure centre with steam/sauna to name a few. We do charge for clay shooting, archery and falconry as these activities are through on site contractors.

I will discuss your comments in relation to your Spa experience with the team.

Again, I am very sorry that you were not entirely happy with your stay and I hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back so that we can restore your faith in our hotel.

Sincerely

Mark Nolan - General Manager

We were welcomed by a bagpiper and the hotel staff lined up just like Downtown Abbey! The rooms are spacious, clean and up to date. We were a little surprised that there was no air conditioning (we were in the oldest section of the castle) but the staff brought us an extra fan and we were able to stay cool. The staff at Dromoland Castle are outstanding!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the newer section of the castle to have air conditioning and wifi in your room.

Dear Traveljunky61

Thank you for your lovely comments. We are delighted that you enjoyed your time with us and the unnaturally high temperatures of last July did not inconvenience your stay at Dromoland. As this castle is a very old structure we do not have air conditioning throughout but I am glad to hear that we managed to keep your room cool with extra fans.

I hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back if traveling through Ireland in the future.

Sincerely

wonderful property, with a very attentive staff and great dining experiences.
The grounds are magnificent and activities plentiful

Watch out only for the dry cleaning service. Not up to par

Overall it exceeded our expectations and would consider returning

It was a nice touch to have Aiden greet us at the car with a handshake and welcome. Leisha gave a us a nice tour of the castle with a great sense of humor. If you are looking for a great castle to stay in to check one off your bucket list, this is a must. The grounds and especially the walled gardens are spectacular. Nicely refurbished, attentive staff, and a spacious room with a view of the lake.

The hotel definitely warrants a few days spent just on the property because there are so many things to see and do there. All of the activities are well done, well staffed, and entertaining. The food is excellent as well. We ate at all of the available restaurants/bars and found each one offered something different. We did not get to use the spa facilities but will return again to golf and relax at the spa!

My daughter and I have been to Ireland many times, and we have traveled extensively around the country, staying in different hotels, manors and castles. But we always stay at least one night at Dromoland Castle, our favorite place. The castle is just that - a castle. One of the reviewers stated that it needed to be "revamped", which would suggest that the management turn the castle into an upscale hotel. That would be a shame, since we love the place BECAUSE it is old and original, as we expect a castle to be. The Irish breakfast is awesome, the grounds are wonderful and serene - be sure to take your cameras! We love sitting in the bar, having tea or a Guinness. The service is exactly what it should be: friendly, polite, helpful, but not pushy or overbearing. The rooms we have stayed in were magnificent, just what you would expect in a castle, but with modern amenities. There are many places to visit that are close enough to make in a day's trip. From the castle we have ventured to the Bunratty Castle area, Galway, Dingle, Cliffs of Mohr, and even as far north as Knock, making each one a day trip on different occasions. Dromoland is not cheap, but we didn't expect it to be. You will not be disappointed.

Not cheap!! but worth the expense!! Gardens are exceptional? We didn't have time for golf but the course looked impressive too!
Afternoon tea was lovely even for a Guy . It came with tea and we added Guiness. Casual dining rooms seemed more inviting.
