We booked this restaurant whilst on a weekend break in West Clare. While chatting to the owner to confirm a booking I was told about the mystery menu and decided to book two seafood surprises for my husband and me!We were blessed with a beautiful evening and arrived to a table with perfect views of the setting sun. The owner could not have been friendlier and she was ably asssisted by a charming young waitress. Our meal was TRULY FIVE STAR! To start with we were given a 'rud beag' to whet the appetites.. a warm smoked makerel served on leaves with a tangy dressing. This was accompanied by delicious malty brown bread and a sour dough type bread, each of which we adorned with the makerel and dressing. Crab claws, simply prepared with garlic and butter were melt in the mouth. Our mains was black sole on the bone, served with a wine and butter jus with potato gratin and stir fried vegetables. The fish was perfectly cooked and the myriad of flavours and textures resulted in a most enjoyable repast. Dessert followed by way of a shared plate which included a chewy meringue with cream and strawberries, a chocolate cake which looked very rich but was light and airy and a rich almond tart. Strong coffees followed as we watched the remains of the sun fade away in the April sky. Generous glasses of house white accompanied our meal with our water being constantly replaced. A truly lovely experience and we will definitely be back as soon as we can! Well done to the owner and her son the chef... a special word of praise to the young waitress for her friendliness and service.
