“A great little find”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

This really is a lovely hotel set in a beautiful location. The hotel lobby area, drawing room and dining areas are quite charming, The bedroom (located in the main house) was of a standard quality, clean and nicely decorated.

The afternoon tea was delightful. The dinner menu did not live up to it's expectations, as the starter ingredients were of poor quality and the dessert (banoffee) was inedible. However the main course was very good. The choice of breakfast was excellent.

The staff on duty during the day were all very friendly and helpful, but the staff working during the evening (including the duty manager) were ALL very glum and they huffed and puffed walking around the building in front of guests It was entertaining to watch. A simple smile goes a long way.

The Spa facitities and the staff were excellent.

Had a lovely stay at the hotel at a family wedding over 3 nights.

Room was ok, stayed in the main hotel however bathrooms poor and basic (no hot water for a bath, and water v brown?)

Not sure I would go back as it really seems set up as a wedding venue, and for this it was excellent.

Function room, meal, service, reception room etc all fantastic!

As a hotel seems lacking in a number of areas as per other reviews, bar area closed on our first night, struggled to get service, spa is really just treatment rooms, no pool etc for relaxing.

So as a hotel I prob wouldn't return, but excellent wedding venue (for this would have got 5 stars!)

Dear BHDollar,

Thanks for your feedback.

Our sincere apologies with the hot water in your room. We are aware of some issues that occur from time to time with this.
While we do sell ourselves as a wedding venue, we really do try to look after all our guests equally.

We spent 4 nights here at the beginning of September, associated with a Dublin wedding with the Reception held at the Hotel. It has a lovely 'country house' feel to it and the picture of its frontage belies the size of the building within. We had a very comfortable room on the ground floor, generously proportioned and well appointed to a very good standard. The staff were very friendly and really made us feel welcome. Buffet breakfast served at civilised hours...till 10 am..and a comprehensive choice of food. The catering all round was excellent and the meal served at the Wedding Reception was one of the best 'function meals' we have had....ever.
We would love to go back for another visit......a great place to chill out for a few days in beautiful countryside.

We stayed mid week in early October to do some walking in the Wicklow hills. The hotel has a tremendous location and is in a beautiful village.

When we stayed there were very few other guests and on one night I think we were the only residents. The bedroom had 2 large comfortable beds. The bathroom had a good shower but the shower curtain barely stayed inside the bath and al the pipe work was visible under the sink. I understand there is a planned refurbishment which presumably will rectify such things.

My main disappointment related to the lack of interest from staff particularly as we were one of the few residents. The staff did not speak to us or ask if there was anything they could do for us - they were certainly not busy. One day we returned with wet walking gear and as the central heating was not on we asked about drying facilities to be told there were none. There was no heated towel rail. We had dinner on our first night and it was satisfactory but there was little imagination to the menu. We dined in the village for the other nights. The bar was open only on one night though was not manned and even though I sat in the bar area no one asked would I like a drink. There was a good Irish breakfast though it would have been helped with local preserves and more fruit.

We did not visit the spa but the prices seemed high and hotel residents should receive some form of complementary access even for the spa pool.

The hotel has much potential but I doubt if I will return

Dear Brian393,
Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay.
We are currently evaluating options on the visable pipework in the toilets and is part of our refurbishment program.
Our sincere apologies on the lack of attention given to you both from our staff. This is definetly not our normal practice. As we can be quiet mid-week we would like to think we give the same consistency in service. However on this occasion we did not.
I will certainly express your feedback back to the team and in a country house hotel, the individual service one would be expected.

Stayed for two nights to attend a wedding and were given a warm welcome by the friendly staff. Very helpful, we asked for an iron and had it brought to us within minutes. Room was comfy and clean - definitely echo others about the bathroom. It was dated and let our room down a little. Also signal on the tv is shocking! Great wifi signal though.
Wedding was amazing.. I would imagine the noise from the disco would disturb other guests, it went on until 2am. However this didnt affect us as we were partying away!
Breakfast was varied and tasty, with plenty of good strong coffee.
Old part of hotel - drawing room & bar specifically were gorgeous :)

We went to the hotel to celebrate a friend's birthday and I had a surprising hen party. Our deal included the spa with a back and eye massage. Although, we had to wait a while to get it done I liked both what, but some of my friends didn't. One of the jacuzzis wasn't working properly and in the other one the water was cold. None of us were impressed by the green cotton bath robes we were given they were so full of roles that I actually could not believe it we had to use them. To compensate we had a beautiful dinner and the breakfast was also excellent. The staff in general was polite, friendly and pleasant. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star is because of the Spa Service that needs a lot of improvement.

Two friends and I went for a two night midweek birthday treat. The hotel seemed to be empty except for us. Our triple room( 202) was huge and excellently appointed. Staff were very pleasant. We enjoyed visiting the Powerscourt estate with the garden centre and Avoca shop. We also visited the nearby Powerscourt hotel for a sumptuous afternoon tea. Weather was perfect for walking and the nearby St Patricks Churchyard is peaceful and had some very we preserved graves covered in beautiful wild cyclamen at this time of year.
