An audio tour about Hannah's life during the famine. A sad story but well told and worth visiting.

I think very young children probably wouldn't appreciate this, but you could always bribe them with the park next door :-)

“Excellent display”

The audio tour of the museum is very interesting and gives a good insight into the life of "wee Hannah" a woman who lived through the famine times. The museum is well set out and the staff were helpful.

“Depressing but worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2013

This is a self-guided tour with headsets (4 euros) giving a glimpse into the wretched world of the old "poorhouses" that existed in Ireland during the 1800's. The exhibit consists of several rooms of scenes from the workhouse with mannequins dressed in rags and artifacts from the era. It is very well done. It follows the life of one of the real-life female residents of the workhouse and describes in graphic detail the daily lives of those who found themselves in this awful place. It is a depressing yet fascinating look at the way life used to be for the poor in Ireland. The only complaint I have is that the sound system stopped working halfway through the tour, and we had to get them to re-set it and fast-forward until we got back to where we were. In a word, very educational but very depressing.

“Allow yourself a bit of time.”

Unfortunately on the day of my visit I had two tired kids who just wanted to get back home after playing in the brilliant park at the side of the building. I would have loved to have had time to fully appreciate the audio tour and properly immerse myself in the poignant tragedy of the workhouse. Pleasant staff and as I mentioned previously, a fantastic playpark at the side of the attraction.
