K2 - The Killary Centre
Reviewed 19 June 2013

Hi,

I shared a dorm room here for the Connemara Adventure Race I was partaking in.

Very good value for money as breakfast was included also. And a possible must to stay at the centre for ease if you're also doing one of their races the following day.

I shared with all girls and my boyfriend shared in a separate all male room. Fine for one night on a weekend break away together

Room Tip: Try get one away from the main entrance/reception area to reduce noise and people passing by outside

I stayed in Killary last weekend and had an amazing time.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, rooms were clean and food was basic but good. The location is amazing with the bungee tower looking directly down the fjord at the snow covered mountains.

If you are looking for a weekend trip away that offers something slightly different I recommend trying it out. The only bad thing I can say is that it was freezing outside and Leenane (the local village) was a bit quiet at this time of year.

Went for a hill walk on the Sunday and the views form the top of Ben clare was incredible, I'll definitely be back in the summer to experience Killary with the sun.

Cannot speak highly enough of this centre. Firstly it is located in one of the most scenic locations in the world. It is a treat for the senses to look out the window in the morning across the fjord to the mountains.
The range of activities is fantastic with great staff- helpful, professional.
The centre is clean and cosy, great for a group stay.

The reception staff were friendly and pleasant, and the room was clean. Unfortunately kids thought it would be fun to run up and down the corridors screaming all night which wasn’t that much fun for others trying to sleep. After several hours of this the novelty began to wear off.

The teenage breakfast staff were disorganised and looked confused when we asked for milk. We had paid for a cooked breakfast but didn’t get it as “I can’t operate the cooker without a supervisor”. I’ve managed to produce cooked breakfasts in the past without supervision, but sadly K2 could not. Oh, and the only coffee on offer was instant from a jar. There was a big fancy coffee machine with nice fresh beans, so I asked for a proper cup of coffee, but was told that they weren’t using the machine.

K2 is a reasonable budget hostel, but don’t expect much more than a space in which to lie down.

What a disappointment!

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for one night - we were booked in for two nights but left after the first night. We're not royalty but do expect a certain standard, especially at €40 per night per person. Rooms are very basic, which is absolutely fine, as it is a hostel setup. However it is hygiene and cleanliness where this place fails miserably!

Rooms are filthy. The bed sheets didn't seem clean or fresh. The sheets, pillows and duvets are old, covered in stains, a hair or two. How much could it cost to buy new bedsheets? The rooms are not dusted, There was woodlice crawling around the bathroom and spiders enjoying the view from the window.
The bathroom will get flooded by the shower as there is no shower basin, just a tiled floor with drain. We changed rooms and the second room was exactly the same, disgusting! Very noisy at night, unfortunately the bedroom doors need to be slammed in order to shut properly.

The staff are very friendly and approachable which is great, but the place seems to be run by teenagers which may be the reason for the low standard. The staff (teenagers) were eating their own breakfast behind the counter while they served us breakfast. Dirty cups, coffee was terrible..

The Bar! ahem, what bar? you can buy cans of beer or cider at an extortionate €3.50 each! Whilst listening to a teens ipod playlist over the speakers.

Activities are great and instructors and staff are very helpful in this dept. The scenery in the area is breathtaking. Jonathan, the kayaking instructor was top class, fair play. Unfortunately we didn't stay long enough to try other activities..

Killary Adventure Centre, you need to clean up your act!
Recommend people go there for the activities but stay somewhere else!

I stayed in K2 for the October bank holiday weekend with 8 friends of mine and had a fantastic stay. From the minute we arrived everything that could be done to make our trip enjoyable was done and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are basic but are warm, clean and comfortable. We also enjoyed 2 breakfasts and a lunch in K2 (the homemade soup and flapjacks were luscious!).

We also partook in events in the Killary Adventure Center and had an amazing time there.

Would highly recommend and we will definitely be returning.

I can't say enough about this place for a fantastic stag.........The staff and instructers were well equiped to deal with 14 roudy males. We arrived in K2 late on a friday drank to our fill and our festivities passed without a raised eyebrow. This (with my friends in mind) is quite an achievement. we rose at 8 am in the morning for the high ropes course but not before our fully cooked irish breakfast. On the highropes course we had the able "lorna" at least that is what i think her name was...... she was very patient and and full of humour with 14 hungover males, which is a major feat in anyones book.

I would recommend anyone who goes here from april to october to bring anti spray as they can be a pain and if not purchased can may take away from an otherwise excellent weekend.

The food here is perfectly suitable for a stag weekend, that is if you have enough energy to eat it. The rooms are rough and ready but very comfortable and the taxi service that takes you to westport is both flexible and understanding of stag weekends.

I would highly recommend going here and at least doing the high ropes course (we did the take aim and climb package).

All 14 of us are think of going back here on a lads weekend and seeing that we are from Kerry, Clare, Limerick, Cork, and waterford and to make that long journey is saying something.
