He _didn't_ stay at this nineteenth-century hunting lodge, but next to what is now another hostel closer to Rosroe pier itself, which you can reach via the Bunowen tertiary road. This place (the CH) as previous reviews suggest is I suppose not for everyone, but it is evocative, what with the weathered marble mantlepiece, reproductions of the Paul Henry paintings done right around here, the grounds edged with pines and other such exotica, and the staff, particularly Fergal and Joanne, are fantastic. There is music in the bar from the people who stay here--I remember a couple of kids (maybe staffers?) covering the Lumineers, Radiohead, Dylan, Neal Young, et cetera, on flute and guitar--and yet I had no trouble getting to sleep in my room, or having many a quiet moment at an early breakfast alone with Mweelrea, veiled in cloud or glowing in its dark splendor on the odd clear morning. Ten years ago I'd driven through Leenane and resolved to come back to this most Scandinavian corner of lovely Connemara, and the Connemara Hostel was just the place to realize that ambition.

Room Tip: The people who come here are well-behaved--even when I ended up staying an extra night and was in an...

The hostel is hidden in the woods aprox. 6 km from the nearest village Leenane but the location is amazing and the staff as well. It was a pleasure tu be accommodated there ... The kitchen is good equiped, there is an option to eat outside and in the morning there is complimentary tea, coffee, bread, jams and butter. If you want to spend few days in Connemara NP, this hostel is in our opinion the best option.

We stayed here for one night in a six bed female dorm. The Hostel is situated right at the Killary Fjord. There is no public transport going there, so it is better to have a car when staying there.
Also you need to bring food, because there are no stores near the Hostel.
The room was clean, big, but cold. Toilets were not working properly, due to problems with the water pressure.
Kitchen and dining room were good, but the water from the sink was not useable for cooking and dishwashing. But there were containers provided by the Hostel.
The common room was very cosy, with a fire lit in the evenings and a large amount of DVDs and Videos available.
Free Wifi and towels.
Staff was very nice, they even gave us a lift as we had problems with the bus.
I would definitley recommend staying there, if you like to be in the nature far away from civilisation.

We spent 9 days at the hostel and loved it. The location was stunning and there were lots of things to do locally and easily accessible with a car. You need to bring food but the kitchen is well equipped and the dining room overlooks Killary harbour. Beds were very comfortable and the staff were very welcoming. Highly recommended.

Amazing place and friendly staff, comfortable rooms and living room, maybe should be more clean and some rooms not have enough hot water. Prices and kitchen ok. Around the hostel the fjord is nice......................................

This place has an excellent location but that's nearly it about it.
It desparately needs some improvements. The place is run down and in the rooms and the baths there is mould wherever you look.
Even the tab water is not ment to clean the dishes with.
The young receptionists are rather ignorant than friendly.
Hope they do something about it.

Amazing hostel - higly recommended!!! the location is breath-taking, the staff very welcoming and helpful, the atmosphere warm and homy. Very good value for money. The Connemara Hostel is all you want for a relaxing Holiday lost in the nature!! One detail: remember to bring your food with you as shopping facilities are at least 6 km away from the hostel. Other than that a perfect place.
