We have stayed in this hotel over the last 10 years. at least once every year. This hotel has never failed us in all this time. The staff and service are excellent. staff always helpful. I would describe it as faded elegance which is charming, home from home.

The food is excellent, the whole experience is heartwarming and you feel so relaxed and well looked after. The surrounding scenery is majical and it is no distance to see other lovely places as in, Westport, Cliftden and is only about 1 hour and 15 mins from Galway city.

The comfort and value of this hotel is wonderful, I would highly recommend it . The rooms are spotless and the beds are very comfortable. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. What I will say is that I am already looking forward to my next visit this year.

Room Tip: All rooms are good most overlooking the harbour.

This must be the busiest hotel in Ireland so we were a bit apprehensive re. the food in particular,we need not have worried,.we always stay at 3 or 4 star hotels and would rate the food here with the best. The housekeeping could have been better,so we felt at home. The staff were really cheerful and and obviously pleased to have a job.The bill for 5 night B&B + dinner came to under 500 Euros so 5 stars from us

This hotel is in a beautiful scenic location with most room balconys overlooking the lake. The rooms are of good standard given the outside of the hotel is in need of a make-over. The inside is old but lovely with original floor tiling and dark wooden features and there is a lounge area which is very relaxing and where staff light a fire every afternoon. There were many people gathering here to avail of wi-fi and curl up on the many sofas and comfortable seats in front of the fireplace. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. This is an ideal base to travel around connemara, to sit in and relax with a book or there are many outdoor walking/biking trails for people seeking adventure. We will return again without doubt.

I travel the world and stay in good quality hotels. We attended a local wedding and were concerned by previous negative comments about this hotel. To my delight I found a hotel where the rooms and cuisine were of very good standard and staff very friendly and helpfull.
I would stay there again

We called into this hotel for food. We were a large group and we got ourselves seated in the bar. We were observed by the staff but noone assisted us in getting the tables together- we sorted ourselves out and we went up to the bar for menus. We found the the staff member at the bar very unfriendly. She begrudgingly handed us a menu and we returned to our seat. I had a question to ask about the menu and asked a passing member of staff a question about the menu. He was very gruff so we were taken aback and decided this hotel wasnt for us so we left without ordering

Look out for their early and late season offers. the gourmet meal breaks are great. Food is lovely with plenty of choice. Pay the extra for a better room, it is worth it. Pay the extra for the comfort, though the older rooms have a quirky charm. Enjoy the relaxed charm of the hotel. The younger staff are generally great. The owners / bosses can be grumpy old men even if they are young. The head receptionist can be a bit dismissive but she gets things done. The situation is superb. Most of the staff are great. Enjoy it before they turn it into a standard boring hotel. If you have a good appetite then it is doubly recommended for the quality and quantity of food. P.s. try the seaweed baths!!

While I didn't stay here, partly due to negative reviews below, I did chance the restaurant one evening. Good news is that the restaurant food and prices were excellent. Decor and cleanliness likewise. Our server had the right balance of being there when needed, but otherwise out of sight.

Concerning negative experience of staff mentioned in other reviews, I spoke to some residents of the hotel who disagreed and had found the staff very accommodating. Our experience of reception, bar and restaurant were also good, with one exception.

The lady who appeared to be in charge of the restaurant was very curt and angry looking. We arrived at the restaurant door 5 minutes before opening because the hotel was full and a table not guaranteed. We were told to go away both verbally and with a dismissive wave of her hand. I found this behavior very ignorant and uncalled for. I could see that staff were stressed with their workload, but when lighting candles on tables becomes more important than the people who will sit there, something has gone badly wrong with priorities.

Courtesy is never optional. Overall, this hotel is almost there, but not quiet.
