Just back from our third visit to Leenane Hotel. Such a tranquil place. The weather could have been kinder but there is so much to see and do in the area. Visited Achill Island ,Westport, Kylemore Abbey and beautiful Cliften for crab claws in Mitchell's Restaurant The staff in Leenane are a mix of familiar faces and students. Food and wine of a very good standard and such value. Make sure to get room at the front.

Spent a few days in the hotel and as always had a great time. Conor and his staff do a fab job fair due's to them, and this is reflected in the amount of people that return again and again to this beautiful part of Connemara. Keep up the good work. Kevin.M

We enjoyed a very enjoyable short stay in the Leenane Hotel. NIce room, beautiful view, good food and breakfast, friendly helpful staff and some nice Irish music in the evening. Well located for a short or longer stay. Reasonably priced

Room Tip: All rooms are good - bigger rooms are slightly more expensive.

As Joan was going to see the Ladies Final at Wimbledon with our Daughter,I decided that when she came home a short break in Connemara would be just the job.
Seeing a small advert in the Belfast telegraph offering a great deal for 2 day stays I contacted the Hotel and booked it .
Our journey from Carrickfergus on the East Coast of N Ireland to Leenane on the West Coast of Galway took us about 6 hrs including stops for lunch and coffee breaks,so we were delighted that the weather was dry.
Our first view of the Hotel sitting by the side of the N59 and looking over Killary Harbour was welcome as I was becoming tired driving,
On entering the Main door we quickly saw reception and a shout to the office produced a friendly face who checked us in.
After being given the key to Room 40 I pointed out that I hoped it was at the front as I'd read some poor reviews regarding rear facing rooms. We were in Luck as our room was of good size and looked over the Lough,in fact it had a small balcony.
The Hotel dates back to the Victorian era,but has had two modern wings added, however there is NO LIFT,(that's elevator to our American Cousins). If you can't manage stairs make sure you say so when booking.Talking of stairs the main staircase from reception is a beautiful relic of bygone days with very small riser stairs.
There is a delightful residents lounge with lots of comfortable sofas and chairs. The ideal place to enjoy a Dram and a Good Book while the logs crackle in the fire.
The Bar is cosy and snacks or lunch can be had here, while the dining room is large and the tables well spaced.
Now, talking of dining, the food in the Leenane Hotel is Great. Breakfast is a buffet with plentiful supply of everything to set you up for the day,and the Dinner, which was part of our deal, was 5 course and excellent.AND they have very good House Wine at a reasonable price.
The service was first class, provided by a mixture of students and locals, all of whom were very pleasant.
The Hotel also has a Seaweed Bath house,so we sampled this and came out with skin like a Baby's Bottom.Well worth trying.
All in All I heartily recommend this Hotel and Joan and I will certainly return.

Room Tip: All rooms to the front have views over Killary Harbour,

We had a fabulous stay at The Leenane Hotel 2 weeks ago when we travelled over to go to the Westport festival. There was a group of us - 3 couples and we could do nothing but comment on the service we received over our 3 night stay there. We stayed in the new part of the hotel and the views were amazing, rooms were clean and comfortable with quirky edge. We ate there on our first night and the food was beautiful, not to mention our waitress for the night who was really helpful - she even walked home to her house to pick up some cucumber slices to bring back to give to my poor friend whose eyes had inflamed after a severe allergic reaction earlier that day!!SO lovely.
I am gluten intolerant and nothing was too much hassle if I requested a gluten free option for either dinner or our 3 breakfasts. Great selection for me which I am not used to getting when eating out.
Bar staff and receptionists were very chatty and helpful, as were cleaning staff who made sure we didn't leave a few bits behind.
I never leave reviews but as we really enjoyed our stay and the service I would just like to recommend it to anyone looking for a gorgeous little place to stay while exploring the countryside around there.
Thank you!

So disappointed, I am wondering were we at a different hotel to other reviewers. The place needs a good clean up as far as i am concerned, the standard of hygiene that i saw was not acceptable,ie same bit of food on the dining room floor for 2 days in a row,Staff not dressed in suitable manner for serving, no smile on any of their faces,we were never asked did we want coffee or tea at breakfast or water with the evening meal,we had to find a staff member to ask for it.Breakfast very poor on 1st day only bacon sausage egg, no fruit, only juice, more on following days, dinner only fair did not dine there for evening meal after first day. Bedroom & bathroom needed cleaning . No lift which would not go amiss. . Scenery excellent but sadly about the only thing the hotel has going for it.

Room Tip: Room wa quiet,if you have any trouble with stairs look for downstairs room
