It is rare to find a place that seems perfect for such a wide range of guests – from families with young kids (the laid back atmosphere, animals and ample grounds), to millennials (glamping and small batch distilled gin), to older travelers (appealing sitting rooms, very good beds, fantastic food). Thanks to the talented hosts, the friendly staff and the ambiance of a clearly loved and historic house, you feel like a guest at a country house rather than a hotel.

Really enjoyed a couple of nights glamping at Ballyvolane midweek with kids who really loved it. Nice sheltered setting for the Glampsite and the nearby showers/bathrooms are in an excellent outhouse/shed conversion. Good base for exploring with Cork City, Lismore etc relatively close by. Staff very friendly & helpful especially with boisterous toddler. In short, really nice place with really nice people.

Ballyvolane is a picturesque, very old school house in the most beautiful setting. We arrived for a two day weekend wedding. We opted for the glamping and I'm so glad we did, what an experience. Bernie met us on arrival (absolute character) brought us to our tent and gave us the low down. Fear not ladies there's a mirror and plugs at the showers for all your makeup and hair needs (which I admit I was worried about before arriving).

The ceremony was among the trees in a beautiful little forest in the grounds of Ballyvolane. The food for the wedding was delicious, both the main meal and the lunch the next day. It's all the little extra added touches that make this place so special, from the secret hammocks, tree houses, croquet games and gin distillery tours to the disco in the barn, table tennis tournaments, hot water bottles and candle chandeliers waiting for you going to bed, I cannot compliment it more.

The only advice I would give to glampers is to bring a sleeping mask as you wake with the sunrise, however, it didn't stop us sleeping in until Bernie gave us a knock on the door of the tent telling us we were three hours late for breakfast!!

We will definitely be coming back to Ballyvolane House in the future, a gorgeous little hidden gem in Cork.

Room Tip: Go for the glamping, it won't disappoint!

Had a wonderful weekend enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Ballyvolane House and Justin and his staff hospitality. The house is beautiful and you could see yourself just relaxing in our of the beautiful rooms and rather impressive fire places.

Our first attempt at Glamping was very impressive with the large bell tents. Plenty of room and nothing like sleeping in the fresh air inside a tent. The staff put hot water bottles your bed and light the candles inside ready for a good nights sleep.

There is a small pub onsite inside what must have been old estate buildings of the past. Another cosy place you could happily spend the evening. You can go with out tasting Bertha's Revenge Irish Milk Gin that they distil on site in the work sheds. A perfect drink to match a prefect summer weekend vacation

We arrived with high expectations, and were still very pleasantly surprised. We were staying here for a family wedding and were totally blown away by everything at Ballyvolane House. There is something very special here. Justin and Jenny are perfect hosts. Having worked at the highest level of hospitality around the world, they have manage to combine the very best of what they have experienced internationally and combined with genuine Irish hospitality, making everyone feel like a welcome guest in their home, rather than a client.

The decor is tasteful and comfortable, while carefully maintaining the authenticity of the beautiful house. The bedrooms are impeccably furnished, with little touches like homemade cordial and old fashioned transistor radios adding something memorable to every room. The beds are almost opulent in their comfort levels, with beautiful linen and extremely cozy duvets ensuring that even as a light sleeper, I slept like a baby. There are only six bedrooms in the main house, so many of the wedding guests availed of (& raved about) the glamping in the gardens.

We ate two dinners at Ballyvolane, one in the stunning communal dining room and the other at the wedding reception. The food was delicious at both. Seldom, have I left a wedding reception remembering what I have eaten, but Ballyvolane was an exception. The food was plentiful and of extremely high quality, probably because it is almost all locally and sustainably sourced; you really can taste the difference. The same was true of breakfast; you don't get eggs much fresher than those at Ballyvolane.

The warmth of the hospitality was extraordinary. If any of the staff were tired (which is inevitable at a big event), they didn't show it. Everyone was welcoming and relaxed at every encounter, making well over 100 guests feel right at home.

The few children at the wedding were made feel like royalty, with delicious food, plenty of play space, an opportunity to get to know the family dogs and the chance to play croquet (& hurling) on the lawn. The icing on the cake was the opportunity to feed the pigs and chickens, as well as the chance to collect some eggs next morning (as I mentioned, the eggs at Ballyvolane really are fresh).

Having not been involved in the wedding planning, I cannot comment on the run-up to the event, but on the day, everything went seamlessly. The arrival of the groom and his groomsmen at the wedding venue in the forest in the house Landrover was pretty special. The lawns were perfect for the drinks reception and the brand new dining terrace was ideal for the sumptuous meal. The adjacent barn was perfect for the bar and dancing. Next day, everyone was talking about the delicious bacon sandwiches which were served just as the partiers were getting a bit peckish again.

Whether it's for a special event or a country escape, there cannot be many better venues than Ballyvolane House. It really was a magical wedding location. So many hotels and venues just blend into one another nowadays , but Ballyvolane really stands out from the crowd. Justin and Jenny have really created something unique with their clever blend of international excellence and the authenticity of an Irish welcome. We would love to return to get a chance to explore the gardens and walk around the area at a less hectic time.
