“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2013

We were impressed by the property. Rooms are excellent, we stayed in the Judy Dench themed room. The staff are excellent and friendly. The food is worth the trip alone, with one word of caution: we stayed three nights and ate there for all three; the food is very rich and felt the need for something plainer by the time we left (we are our own worst enemies). Highly recommended.

So many good things to report, food firstly...amazing. Service, excellent, brilliant host. Decor, imaginative, but overly-designed. Stayed in the crow's nest, after long week of work, no storage facilities for clothes, a basic thing. Great bed, but the gap in the headboard means all your pillows fall out the back. Basic. Less design, more thought.
Sadly seems to be trying to appeal to every market, would be better doing what it does best, amazing food, high quality of service with an imaginative feel to the place; and yes not including breakfast in the price conveys the wrong message.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night on a Saturday for a last minute weekend away. We stayed in 'the big splash' room, this was a loft style room, quite modern and lots of space but also really cosy. Loved the decor, and all the little touches were great, like home made shortbread and white company toiletries. Shower was also great, could have stayed in it for ages! The bed was very comfy and we had a great nights sleep. A few minor details could have been better, a plug socket near the desk and kettle would have made sense, however we had to boil the kettle on the floor next to the bed, this by no means ruined it for us though. We had a drink in the bar and staff were great, we chose to eat at the fleece down the road - food was faultless!

We were surprised to return at 10pm to find the hotel all in darkness and closed up, however there were plenty of other pubs if you fancy a late one ( you get a key to let yourself in ).

Breakfast was fantastic, surprisingly cheap, just under £10, for cereal, pastries, tea, coffee, juice, toast and then anything from the menu (full English, smoked haddock, eggs benedict etc).

Overall a lovely place to stay for a treat, the big splash and crows nest rooms were the biggest being on the top floor, we'd definitely return and perhaps try the crows nest next time.

We stayed there for two nights a week or so ago and it was amazing. The hotel was beautifully done, the staff we really friendly and the food was amazing! We tried the 7 course taster menu and it was fantastic and great value for money. What more could you want. We would recommend coming here to anyone. There loads to visit round about too. We will deffinately be going back.

Room Tip: We stayed in the crows nest room. Had a gorgeous bath in the room and the room was huge.

A hotel that with room decor advertises to celebrate all things Yorkshire - lovely. And yes the room decor was great however £150 for a night where breakfast is NOT inlcuded - overpriced is the only word I can use to describe this place. iAfter paying the bill we left feeling that we were had experienced much less than that price bracket which is more what you would expect in London!
Also as I experienced the stay I noticed the theme of Yorkshire could have been followed on by using products either sourced locally or celebrating Yorkshire much more for example using Taylors of Harrogate Yorkshire Tea - support your local county!
Staff were friendly, polite and courteous, rooms etc were clean - pricing structure needs more work!

Room Tip: make sure you book in good time to get a choice in room and price

We stayed in the Cabaret room for two nights last week. Ate in the restaurant the first evening and were so impressed with the menu we changed our plans for the 2nd evening to eat in again. This time in the bar and outside for coffee in the evening sunshine. Service is excellent and the staff, led by Maxine and Mark (in the kitchen), were very competent and professional. Nothing was too much trouble.

Mark has trained at La Gavroche in London and more recently at The Star at Harome. Fabulous a la carte showcasing local food at it's best. Wine list is not run of the mill. Their supplier works closely with smaller growers. We were surprised to find a Spanish Viognier made by a Scottish vigneron! Loved that so had to try his Grenache the second night.

Only downside was that the Cabaret room is at the front of the building and the road was much busier than we expected. It was very hot on the second night, but Maxine found us a fan which at least meant we could sleep.

We're going to try the others in Yorkshire, The Fleece also in Addingham (good deli) and the Grey Ox at Hartshead. If we're ever in Edinburgh will certainly stay at the Sun Inn (Dalkeith) and they've just opened the Potting Shed in Edinburgh's city centre.

Room Tip: Check which rooms are at the back of the building, which will be quieter though they'll look ove...

We found a deal online which encouraged us to stay at The Craven Heifer for our anniversary. We stayed in the Perry Green room which was lovely. I loved the funky wallpaper, the 'tree' shaped wardrobe and the bath at the foot of the bed. The bed is one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The first nights sleep was awesome. The 2nd nights sleep wasn't as good as the extractor fan from the kitchen was on all night and as it was too hot to close the windows it meant the noise kept us awake. There were a few things which were needed to make it a full 5 out of 5 for me. Minor things such as the sugar bowl was a bit dirty, the cotton bud holder had what looked like make up splashed on it, the empty coffee packet wasn't removed when they were replaced with new ones, and the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall. The lady who checked us in was very welcoming and charming but we didn't see her again unfortunately. The girl who checked us out was pleasant enough but offered little when we mentioned the noise of the fan that kept us awake. The inn is definitely worth a visit though and I would return as there are lots of little extras such as the homemade shortbread left with the tea facilities, the white company toiletries and the breakfast was stunning!
