“Pleasant 1 night at The Craven Heifer”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

My wife booked a one night stay as a little treat for us at this lovely B&B. We stayed in the De Haviland room (mainly because my wife wanted to relax in the bath at the end of the bed!) and it was great, not tacky at all, just a nice spacious room with a comfy bed and nice view to the countryside. En suite was perfectly adequate. The food is excellent with a varied choice from traditional fish & chips to more exotic fayre, top notch breakfast and lovely staff who couldn't do enough to help. Addingham is a nice village with a couple of nice pubs including the sister establishment to the Craven Heifer further down the road - The Fleece. So yes, we really enjoyed our stay and are thinking of going back again soon to try one of the other themed rooms!

Room Tip: De Haviland room gives really nice views.

…by the 4 "poor" and 4 "terrible" ratings of this excellent inn. All refer to its previous incarnation under different owners. It's a flaw in Tripadvisor's review system that should be addressed. It's not a cheap night - or a cheap night out, if you're just going there to eat - but the food is excellent, the service impeccable and the attention to detail top quality.

We stayed in the de Havilland room as my partner is a plane enthusiast. It was a surprise for him, and he was over the moon when he saw the room. I'd have expected a themed hotel to be a bit tacky, but this was far from that, it was a spacious room with well thought out little features (it was even nicer than the photo on the website). The theme had been applied with taste and style. The bath in the room was lovely and we made the most out of that.

The first night we arrived just after the restaurant was closed but they were not only happy to feed us, we also got canapés and amuse bouche. The food was lovely and the 2 lads who waited on there were pleasant and very helpful. We ended up eating there again the next night because we were so impressed with the food - not something we would normally do at a hotel stay.

There were a couple of things that could be improved - a few minor repairs that hadn't been done in the room, and we didn't have an ipod dock which we expected, but this by no means spoilt our experience. We would (and plan to) stay there again.

Room Tip: Go for one of the larger rooms which have the baths, the ones without didn't look as nice.

Booked to stay here as we going to the Addingham Beer festival. Checked in and got a warm welcome. We stayed in the cricket themed room, which was small but ok. It didn't have a great view (the carpark) and was in the most exposed spot at the top of stairs so we did get a bit of noise. The room was nicely decorated and the bed was comfy, although the shower was a bit of a let down, as I'd have expected a power shower rather than the meek electric shower.
Also, the tea and coffee situation was rather frustrating as they had given us a kettle on the windowsill with the nearest plug socket on the floor on the other side of the room ! The lead was so short that we had to boil the kettle on the floor, which I imagine could be quite dangerous ! Also, they gave us a cafetiere and fresh coffee so we had to make a whole lot, when a simple instant sachet would have sufficed, but I guess they try to cater for the more sophisticated guest !

What annoyed me the most was that they asked to leave our key at the bar before we left but then rang us at 9.30pm to tell us that they had been quiet and were shutting up and could we come and collect our key or they would bring it to the Fleece down the road ( near the beer festival). For me, even if your pub has been quiet but you have guests in the B&B then you keep your pub open, at least until they get back if you are going to keep their key !! They also had a guest key there but couldn't contact the guests so I've no idea how the guests final got in !

The best bit about the whole stay was the breakfast, which was exceptional and I liked having the option of having haddock, salmon or the full English, it was really lovely. It's a shame everything else didn't quite match up !

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at the Craven Heifer in the room "the Big Splash" having only booked the room the same day. We were not disappointed when we arrived. There had been a mix up with the bookings as we were meant to stay in the "Perry Green" room but we were upgraded as someone else had also booked that room. The room we had was lovely and faultless. The attention to detail was great, even down to the homemade shortbread in the room as opposed to the normal packet biscuits. The only negative thing I could possibly comment on was the fact there was no plug socket near to the kettle so we had to boil the kettle on the floor - but that was no hassle!

The shower - I could have stayed in all day! There was a bath in the bedroom which I didn't get chance to use as we were only there one night.

We had a meal on the night and we also booked breakfast the next morning - both were very very good.

I would definitely recommend the Craven Heifer to anyone wanting to stay somewhere that little bit different - you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: The Big Splash is highly recommended!

We were impressed by the property. Rooms are excellent, we stayed in the Judy Dench themed room. The staff are excellent and friendly. The food is worth the trip alone, with one word of caution: we stayed three nights and ate there for all three; the food is very rich and felt the need for something plainer by the time we left (we are our own worst enemies). Highly recommended.
