“Much improvement needed in service level”
Reviewed 30 September 2013 via mobile

Checked in today and already had a bad day. Service level in generally was lacking esp the guys at Reef restaurant. Seems to be at times making fun of the numerous PRC guests in their incompetency in English. The worst was at the water sports centre where theie service was totalling uncouth! Hubby was cut by coral and we were turned away by the crew. Proceed to reception and GRM Doe (if I get her name correctly save the day n got us the necessary medication for the wound. Also the crew at water sports centre was debating with us when we told them that the snorkeling mask was too small for my face n refuse to change until we got upset and they relent and got us another bigger mask where in the beginning they insisted that all sizes are the same. On the contrary, service at the spa was superb with excellent massage skills.

Keeping my finger crossed that my next 4 days will be smooth and that I won't encounter anymore bad service staff to spoilt my honeymoon

We have been back a few weeks now - but visited this beautiful island at the end of July for 2 weeks. Had an unbelievable experience. Our first trip to Maldives and it was fantastic. Food was amazing in all the restaurants - particularly our thanks go to Desmond and Mangala at the Thai restaurant, King and Janet at breakfast who constantly looked after out daughter! The Thai restaurant was our favourite and we found the food amazing. As for swimming- the coral reef was fab and loads of fish to snorkle with including rays, a whole family of Nemos! baby white toips and turtle. My husband spent most days snorkelling around the island as it was so amazing. The trip to see the whale shark was the hightlight of the holiday. Being able to swim with such a magestic 18 foot fish was inspiring. The daily spa treatments were a complete bonus and to have them as part of the package was great. We were looked after every day at the pool bar by lovely people including Prabath, Dinika and Jeewan who were so lovely. And finally my husband and daughter got to scuba dive and have amazing memories. We stayed in a beach villa (no 33) which was a few steps from the sea. A great location as I could watch my daughter in the sea from the villa. My daughter loved popping in the kids club for a few hours each day and then having time with friends at the pool. She loved the crab racing nights and her favourite was the Zumba dance nights with Elmer. All in all an amazing holiday and hopefully we will be lucky enough to go back another time.

Really good experience, amazing island, good snorkelling, good activities, everything included... The service and the food are excellent. Just two comments, I found the diving expensive and the lunch in the departure day, which is not included if you fly late, is also expensive.

Been all over the world and to the Maldives on three occasions and this was the most enjoyable holiday we have ever had. Cannot really be much wrong with it when the children cried themselves to sleep on the last night as they did not want to leave.
Accommodation right on the beach was clean, comfortable and had all the facilities we needed. Restaurant choice was great, Reef restaurant had a wide variety of styles and the staff were extremely attentive, a real hit with the kids. Many very pleasant evenings spent watching the sharks and rays while eating dinner.
Stayed ultimate all inclusive and so had various trips included in the price, snorkelling with whale sharks was excellent and the boat staff were helpful and very attentive, making sure that the children could get a decent view etc
As a rule I wouldn't go back to the same place twice but will definitely make an exception where the Centara Grand is concerned!

there is nothing to fault about the maldives in general, and this place is no exception. the island is small (walk around in less then 10 minutes), and the water is like what you would expect in the maldives, perfect crystal clear. the only small downside about this island is that some part of the beach (about 20% on the hidden side) is hard to walk on as it is mainly broken coral, and there is also the barrier around the island to protect it, not the most esthetical peature, but we are talking about the maldives here, despite all this this is still better then you best resort in the carribean so don't let that put you off.

we stayed in de luxe water villa, I requested room 92 (reception happy to indulge) as it is the last room on the jetty so no vis a vis, i like it as i could use the outdoor shower without worrying about being spotted, but the room is on the on begning of a heavy reef, so if you like prefer to walk down th steps to a wealth of sealife then you would love it, otherwise then view form the room (large glass panel on either side so you have almost an 180 view of the sea is much more "dark" with coral then "crystal". no need to discuss cleaning, this was top notch.

food waas good, the all inclusive is not really more than full board with some drinks. we wren't very happy about the food, not that the quality was sub standard, it was very good, but it didnt meet the quality of the hotel and the ground, and the choices were very limited with Mahe Mahe tunrning up in 8 out of 10 dishes.

staff were great and helpful, i organised a surprise dinner for my partner on our private terrase, and the hotel cuoldn'y have been anymore helpful.

would i recommend it? absolutely, i might even tag along!!!

We stayed in a Luxury Sunset Villa in August which was fantastic. Walking down the steps into the water was great too. But as so many have said before the staff really make the holiday. We were there when the fire happened and we felt so sorry for the staff (and guests) affected. In no way did this spoil our holiday. I had gone for a week of pure relaxation and boy did I get it! A massage every day, swimming in the warm pool and sea and just soaking in the amazing views, fish life and skies, it felt a real privilege to be there. My husband went scuba diving and had a fantastic time exploring the reef and wreck.

This was our best holiday ever and I felt devastated when we left, especially as some of the staff came to wave us off - Widi I miss you!! Other staff who deserve a mention - Doi, Janet & Sherry - you made us feel so welcome and special.

So we have now been home 3 weeks and have just booked to go back in April, but for 11 nights this time!! I cannot wait to be back in paradise!!

After a three hour delay at Male airport the seaplane flight was no problem. At one stage it came up on the board that our sea plane had "departed" although we were still there!! The staff weren't too sure there either.
Once at Centara we were greated at reception by Doi who was very helpful, professional and informative throughout.
Our de luxe water sunset villa was excellent, well furnished, spacious and well situated for our requirements. Our "room boy" Wahid was a perfect gentleman and looked after us well.
Once the tide was up it was easy to get across the coral to the reef edge to see the fantastic marine life.
We were fortunate enough to see two different Devil rays, a group of six eagle rays, various solitary eagle rays, sting rays, a rather large nurse shark, reef sharks, six different turtles and some divers etc etc.
On our stay there were apparently over 60% Chinese guests which seemed rather imbalanced as we have not experienced this before. As a result, the idea is to go to the restaurant an hour after it has opened.
The reef restaurant could be improved. They do cater for the Asian market with Miso soup, noodle soup for breakfast - there are a variety of other choices! Some of the dishes were not always replenished and some had become tough and dry. It would benefit from an extended live cooking station with freshly cooked pastas and freshly cooked fish - especially considering where you are.
The all inclusive Thai was a real treat. The food was second to none. All the staff were extremely professional - Moosa in particular - and took great pride in all they did.
There is an all inclusive Italian which gets booked very quickly.
If you like snorkelling then this island has a brilliant reef. The corals are re generating well. We snorkelled round the entire island three times when it was calm.
The watersports do trips to see the whale sharks by Dhoni.
If you like whale sharks and mantas, pay for it and go by speed boat on a private trip and you will have a 50/50 chance of seeing either or both.
We saw three whale sharks and snorkelled with one for about ten minutes and two different pairs of mantas - snorkelling with two of them for about five/ten minutes . It was an absolute privilege and one that will stay with us for our lifetime. Thank you Ibbe!!

Room Tip: If you like snorkelling then the Deluxe water sunset villa is right there by the reef. The room is s...
