Just back from a lovely weekend stay. We had one of the delux rooms ( not the one in the eves) as I am too tall (6'4) which was intelligently enquired of us by the lady we spoke to at the time of booking.

The room was very clean , cosy and beautifully appointed. A clever merging of nice modern touches in a very old building without sacrificing any of its charm. Yes there are squeakes in the floorboards , but it didnt detract from our enjoyment in any way.

The restaurant was very nice and the standard of food is good. It isnt cheap , but the quality is strong so you get what you pay for. We enjoyed two three course meals with half a litre of chardonnay and the bill each night ( which is added to the room for you) was roughly £75.

Breakfast was within the room rate and again was very good quality ( a very nice cooked breakfast but other options are available).

The staff are lovely as well - happy to recommend walks etc based on local knowledge - and look after you with quiet efficiency which is great.

I want to write a review about the restaurant here but could not find it under restaurants which was very surprising as it must be one of the best pub restaurants in Sussex. We had lunch last Monday 4 of us. We had the set lunch and the food was excellent with some unusual and delicious combinations. The waitress who served us was absolutely superb, friendly efficient, knowledgable and diligent without being too ott. Also a really interesting wine list. We have been before but it seems to get better and better

Just back from a lovely mini break on the South Coast. We stayed at Crab & Lobster as it was recommended in Red magazine and we were not in any way disappointed. The deluxe room (1) was spacious and beautifully appointed. The restaurant was excellent and served superb largely fish based dishes (steak and lamb plus veggie options too), my bouillabaisse in particular was fantastic. Finally the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, pointing us to some lovely beaches. A memorable stay and we will be back

Room Tip: Room 1 was lovely

We stayed for two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The staff were outstanding and couldn't have been more helpful. We stayed in room 4 at the top of the building with stunning views over fields and the estuary. The room was well appointed with a fantastic en suite bathroom. The food was excellent and the specials changed each day which made choices very hard! Wine list also included some great bottles which were very well priced. Overall, we loved the stay and look forward to visiting again soon.

We were staying in Chichester for the weekend and managed to book a table at the Crab & Lobster, we had only checked reviews so had no first hand recommendations to go on, but we absolutely loved it and will come back for a lunch maybe during the year. We live about 40 miles away but it is worth the drive. Very warm, friendly welcome and we were soon seated and made at home. I liked the bread and hummus to nibble with our drinks. Delicious food all the way through our meal with great combinations and presentations, we had crab cakes, duck egg with smoked duck and cauliflower veloute, a brill special and some succulent local lamb. My wife had the sea buckthorn ice cream made by Caroline of Sidlesham, very fresh flavour and I had the rice pudding, but not as you know it. The staff were excellent, especially Lucy who made us very welcome. Many thanks

It used to be a treat coming here. Now they lack waitresses so we were waiting a long time to order our food. Even when it did come I had to return mine as I asked for steak blue - cooked medium if not well done. Lacks the special feel about it now as I have been before when it was lovely. Now we spend a huge amount of money for 6 of us and don't get much in return. Especially £13.50 for a starter...that's a bit extortionate.

This restaurant ticks many boxes location is great, warm welcoming ambience and staff, and hard to fault the food. Nicely cooked and presented.
The whole experience was dampened for us, however, when we asked for a glass of Prosecco, and were told that they could only offer a local sparkling wine, white or rose. That in itself wasn't an issue, as it was pleasant enough if not outstanding, but when we got the bill, £9.85 a glass !!!!
I expect to pay that for champagne at a 5 star restaurant. We like surprises, but a total bill approaching £250.00 for lunch for 4 with a small carafe of wine and a few glasses of local bubbly left the sort of aftertaste you don't need. When we queried the cost we were told it was on the wine list, but tis not normal to look at a wine list when you are just ordering a pre-lunch drink.
Not a sensible strategy frankly. If you have an alternative to what is a fairly normal aperitif, then either let your customers know how much they will be paying, or simply give them a choice.
Overall, we liked it, but will we be coming back ? Not so sure..
