Set in quiet location, short driving distance to nearest bar/ restaurant. Very convenient location for visiting Dordogne, St Emilion, Bordeaux areas. We enjoyed the night markets.
A new ' English' restaurant/ bar opened in St Martin de G the day before we left. We didn't get to try the restaurant but it looked very inviting - evening dining will be even easier!
The Barn is beautifully decorated, 4 double bedrooms, 2 en-suite and a family bathroom, with bath. Well equipped kitchen with dishwasher and Senseo coffee machine. A welcome pack was waiting for us with all the essentials. The private pool was a highlight for our boys. The lake gave our youngest the opportunity to try out fishing and catch his first fish ever, much to his delight. We saw some lovely wildlife from the garden turtle, bats, deer...
Tracey and Rob could not have been more welcoming, happily sharing local knowledge and recommending events in the local villages.
We were truly sad to leave. We hope we get a chance to return...
We have had many gite holidays in France over the years and we have enjoyed all of them. However, this last holiday has to be the best we have had, for many reasons.
Firstly, the quality, the feel and the finish of the gite and its surroundings offered by Tracey and Rob are first class. It really is a stunning holiday home with everything you could need for a fab family holiday.
Secondly, location, location, location. The gite is in the most gorgeous part of France with vineyards and chateaux everywhere you look. It's very verdant, pretty and driving the roads is a pleasure.
Thirdly, but not lastly, the welcome and hospitality from Tracey and her family. The gite is attached to Tracey and Rob's home but they afforded us so much privacy that we could have been the only souls around for miles, yet they were on hand for any support or advice as needed. They balanced that perfectly.
I would strongly recommend this holiday to anyone wanting to soak up the French countryside and all that the region has to offer - it is known as the garden of France for good reason.
I would urge any future guests to make the most of the recommendations for eateries provided in the welcome folder. We left it too late to try more than one and we regret that as the auberge we visited offered amazing food and location.
You won't be disappointed with this wonderful, family holiday home.
We have just returned from a fabulous week at la Maison du Lac. It is simply stunning. It is also incredibly relaxing and peaceful. The gite is amazingly equipped and Tracey has thought of everything! The welcome box is verybthoightfully brimming! It has been immaculately renovated and beautifully decorated and furnished. Our 10 year old was delighted to have his own en suite as well as a king size bed... as was the toddler to have his own cot and bath!! Tracey provided stair gates as well as a cot and high chair which was fantastic! The welcome folder is full of information about the surrounding area and Tracey is close by if you have any other questions. She even printed out a local running route for me so that I didn't get lost! It really is a very special place. The outdoor dining area is gorgeous and wonderfully shaded. The saltwater pool was lovely on hot summer days and the pool alarm and gate ensured that, as parents of a toddler, we could relax without forever dreading an unexpected splash! The boys had fun fishing in the lake and although not successful, they will try again on the next visit! We loved it so much that we only left to go shopping, visit a vineyard and a trip to St. Emillion. La Maison du Lac is one of those places that you want to tell everyone about... but at the same time keep a secret so that you can go whenever you want!! If you have booked already we are sure you will have wonderful time. We just can't wait until next year as we hope to return.
I'm here for a second visit with my family, we loved the big old farm house & surroundings so much last year we couldn't wait to return. After a busy day visiting local towns sight seeing it is perfect to return to the restful location & dine alfresco on the patio, swim in pool or just sit & enjoy the sounds of nature down by the big lake at the bottom of the garden. Would definately recommend.
We spent a fabulous week in La Maison du Lac. The house is huge, beautifully decorated and very well equipped. We spent many fabulous evenings on the terrace enjoying the view over the pool, lake and gardens. The house is well situated for visiting the roundabout area and we will be defiantly be revisiting La Maison Du Lac.
The owners live onsite and were always available when we needed them.
