As far as spas go, I found the lack of pretension very refreshing, as it had remarkably friendly, easy-going staff, from my health advisor to my various massage and wellness practioners. I also liked the fact that the fitness instructors offered pretty good workouts, but never pushed anybody in the general classes to go above their limits. The Saturday BBQ was actually fantastic, and the Thai food (though a little light on spice, which can be remedied with condiments) was fresh and delicious. The common area is quite pretty, as is the spa and pool.
THe only thing I did not personally go for was the encouragement not to leave. Though this spa has everything, and its well balanced, and the teas they serve are addictive, If I am traveling to a new place, I like to explore. They do offer a cooking class that allows people to hit the local market, but it is an extra charge, and they do have busses that go to the local night market and downtown, which does have a couple of fun shoe stores. However, by the hotel on weekends, there is a terrific and very upscale local event with live jazz called Cicada Market that sells high quality crafts and fashion accessories at good prices--not as cheap as the Night Market, but the prices are excellent for the quality you get and the shopping environment is great. There is also a nice local temple used by hotel staffers.
