This is a really lovely converted farm situated just outside the village of Montaigue de Quercy. We booked the barn plus rooms in the main house for our family - eight of us in total. Jan and John are the nicest, most hospitable people you will ever meet. We arrived after a long, hot drive and were greeted with cool drinks and treated as if we were old friends. The farmhouse and barn have been lovingly restored, retaining the feel of the old farm while having all modern, clean and fresh-looking interiors. There is a large swimming pool just outside the barn, with a patio area which easily allowed the 10 of us (we invited Jan and John to join us) to eat outside. There is a well equipped kitchen area in the barn and a barbecue outside on the patio. The barn has two double bedrooms and an enormous lounge.
The main house has a number of bedrooms for B&B. Because there were 8 of us, my wife and I stayed in the main house. Again, sparklingly clean and modern inside. We had a room with a terrace and a separate, large bathroom.
Attached to the barn, there is also a smaller, two-person gite.
Although the gite has a lovely, rural feel to it, it is only a fairly short walk, or five minutes by car into 'town'. We really like this area of France; off the main tourist beat and full of small, interesting towns. Jan and John gave us loads of ideas and we ended up going to local markets, restaurants and some fantastic open air evening food festivals which run throughout the summer locally.
All in all - a wonderful place, run by a very genuine, lovely couple.
It is certainly a place that we all loved and will go back to.
We booked two weeks at the gite and loved the area so much that we made a note to return in future. The gite is part of a larger barn conversion and provides a modern, clean and comfortable stay with shared use of the swimming pool. It was perfect for the two of us.
The gite is conveniently located just outside Montaigu-de-Quercy where there is a choice of 4 restaurants and an English tea room. Fillol is just a few minutes drive away so it is quick and easy to visit the local supermarket and fill up with petrol. The Saturday market is well worth a visit and whilst we were there we attended an outdoors music festival held in the centre of town which provided a great opportunity to sample local food and drink whilst mixing with some of the local people. A true taste of rural France! Our hosts Jan and John sorted out our attendance and provided lots of useful information about the area.
The area has some wonderful countryside and we really enjoyed visits to the local bastides (old fortified hill towns) of Lauzerte, Rocquecor, Beauville, Tournon D'Agenais and Penne D'Agenais. There is also a leisure lake just 5 minutes away where you can swim and hire boats.
