“Enjoyable, relaxing stay in a lovely lodge”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

We stayed at the Whitecairn in a Highland 3 Lodge during the October half term and would definitely recommend it.

The lodge was great: clean with quality furniture and fittings and very warm and cosy. The living area is open plan and quite compact but it has everything you need from dishwasher to full size fridge-freezer and we liked the way it included lots of dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, and even washing liquid for the washer in the separate utility room. In fact it had many extras that some lodges don’t include – washing up liquid, tea towels (all the smaller utility items you usually need to remember to pack). The bedrooms are spacious (there is no storage in the third bedroom however there are fitted robes and a walk-in within the master, as well as a second TV which is handy).

The park itself is very quiet with just a reception, children's’ park and laundrette (handy for the dryers: £1:00 for half an hour) and is ideal for a peaceful break away from it all, set in beautiful countryside. Just take plenty of DVDs and things for the children/teenagers to do as there really is nothing to do but I guess ideal for just a week or short stay.

There’s a shop and a couple of pubs a short drive away but your nearest town is Stranraer about 10 miles away which is a lovely little town with a few shops and restaurants and the people are friendly. There is a small Tesco and a decent size Morrisons.

We also visited the Creetown Gem Rock Museum in Creetown which was an interesting museum for us and the children and well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Our caravan was very clean, comfortable and modern. My children loved our stay, especially having the pool to ourselves for a small cost.

Only negative was a lot of noise at 7 each morning when a lot of men left for work!

We have just returned from the whitecairn holiday park. Staying from the 31st. Aug. - 7th. Sept.
We hired a two bed log cabin from which we had lovely views over the countryside. The cabin it's self was very clean, well appointed and comfortable. The site was very quite and peaceful, maybe
due in part to most children having returned to school? We eat out for most evening meals, but could have cooked if we had wanted to, as everything you wanted was there to make a meal. The beds are very comfortable and bedrooms quite roomy. One bedroom had its own en-suite whilst the main bathroom could also be accessed from the other bedroom. Extra duvets and blanket are provided and also garden chairs if you wish to sit on the decking, which was on two sides of the cabin and got the sun most of the day.

The only negative we found was that quite a number of light bulbs were off in the living and kitchen areas and also in the corridor, this meant that the living area was quite dull in the evening and we found reading difficult. We did report this at reception, and the handyman was told, but nothing was done during the week we stayed. We thought maybe this was a way of saving on electricity!
Ha ha, but gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Room Tip: Cabins and caravans on the outer edges of the site get the views!

Just returned from a 4 night break at Whitecairn holiday park. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, we had a great time. We arrived to check in an hour and half early so were expecting to have to wait, but our caravan was ready. The gent on the reception desk (Derek) showed us to our caravan (E5) and showed us how everything worked and made sure everything was as it should be. This was a really nice touch as we have never experienced this in any other caravan park we've stayed in. Our caravan was fantastic, lovely and clean and spacious you couldn't ask for anything more. We had a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside and a picnic table/bench outside for our use. The park including the children's play area, is immaculately clean and very well maintained.
There is lots to do in the surrounding area (walking, cycling, sightseeing, etc) and there is plenty of information available in the park reception. While staying on the park you can use the sister parks swimming pool, which you have to book through reception, there is a cost of adult - £3, children - £2, we were a little surprised to have to pay for the use of it but as it turned out it was money well spent as we had the whole pool to ourselves for an hour. Not sure if it would be the same during peak season.
The only negative I could say is that the caravans are also let out to people working in the area and when they are leaving for work at 6.00am in the morning it is disturbing. It would be much better if holidaymakers were situated in a different area so you could enjoy a lie in! Right next door we had a group of archaeologists and a group of workers right behind us.

Room Tip: Ask not to be situated near any workers.

Got back today after a 7 night stay at Whitecairn Holiday Park. What a lovely place, it is outstandingly well kept, very clean and tidy, staff very helpful and friendly. Location is ideal to get the peace and quiet you need but also to be near local shops etc should you need them.
Lots of things to do nearby if you like walking or mountain biking, coupled with the most beautiful scenery!! Galloway Forest Park is a must see area, there are lots of different trails located along the 16 mile road through the park. Completely dog friendly area too.
We also visited Stairhaven Beach (very quiet), and Sandhead, this beach is HUGE, a mixture of pebbles and sand, dogs allowed, ample parking and toilets, there is a tea room within 2 minutes of the car park, we sampled the scones(beautiful)....Stranraer is approximately 20 minutes away and has everything you need, for example, fuel, supermarkets, banks, pubs etc....
It was a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday, we will definitely be returning!!!

Stayed at Whitecairn for one night with the aim of taking advantage of the dark skies to watch the Perseid meteor shower. There was a great view of the sky however the facilities could have been better. There is a night toilet for campers and there was no water in the cistern to flush the toilet, no toilet paper and no water in the taps to wash your hands. In the morning the main toilet and shower block offered only an ice cold shower in the gents although I'm told the water was warm in the ladies. The toilet block in itself was clean but very simple.

Unfortunately staying across from us were a group of Glaswegian guys with their young children. The guys stayed up late into the night after their children had gone to bed, getting progressively louder as time went on and the alcohol consumption increased. Unfortunately this spoiled our stay somewhat and we were glad to be moving on the next day.

Stayed at Whitecairne holiday park for 10 days in one of their lodges. The location of the park is up a narrow road and the views are excellent you can see the sea. We arrived 2 hours before actual check in but lodge was ready which was good. The man on reception was very welcoming and friendly gave us directions and then followed us down to show us how everything worked. All the lodges were in a row but ours was on the end so had a good view. The lodge itself was clean very spacious for 4 people good size tv and also a DVD player. Kitchen well equipped with dishwasher also had washing machine in utility room. It had 2 double bedrooms ideal for 2 couples one had walk in wardrobe with loads of storage space leading to shower room the other had another walk in wardrobe with dressing table . Also had access to main bathroom with bath with overhead shower from the bedroom itself. You could also access it from the main corridor. It has a balcony where u can sit with chairs provided. The park itself is well kept and tidy and generally quiet. It has launderette and childrens play area on site. Surrounding area there is a local shop in the village nearest supermarkets are Morrison's and a Tesco in stranraer which is 10 miles away. There is also a good fish and chip restaurant which we used a couple of times. We also found a pub at luce bay which was next to the sea about 6 miles away from the park. Enjoyed a couple of visits to port patrick a small harbour town with places to eat. Overall had a nice relaxing holiday.
