For your own sanity and health do not visit this site. We have been on many sites but not one was as bad as this. Dirty showers/toilets. We had to clean before we used them. Just one washing machine for whole site which was filthy. We had to Pay cash only, no receipt posting payment through owners letter box. The owners are the most obnoxious, rude ignorant people we have ever met. Will never return to this site. It is appalling.

Stayed for a mini break in a 3 bed chalet.

The site is fairly easy to find within easy access of both the M1 and M6.

There are a number of chalets set on a caravan / camp site. The chalets offered a spacious lounge come diner with OpenPlan kitchen. The three bed rooms offered one double bed and two single each of the others.

The bedrooms were comfortable enough but not terribly big other than the master.

The bathroom was well finished with a new walk in shower with a power shower supply.

The kitchen was fairly basic with a small fridge freezer combination and an old fashion solid electric ring stove that seemed to take ages to get hot.

The surrounding area offers a secluded and safe environment for children with stuff to do close by.

Now for the bits that need improving:

Without doubt, our chalet needed a damn good clean. On leaving I checked under the bed for potentially lost stuff only to be met with months of dust, old sweets wrappers and dust - yuck!

The carpet in the lounge had seen better days and had been ripped.

Some of the window latches were broken meaning the windows could not be left open - problematic in hot weather.

The veranda decking and the two wooden chairs that were on offer all needed TLC - just a coat of varnish would have made such positive impact.

This I’m afraid this is the same throughout the site - it needs some love to warrant the not insignificant cost of staying here.

This place has potential but I don’t think I would return anytime soon - sorry!

We live locally. This was our first trip out in our new motorhome. Called on site the day prior to our visit to book a site. Reception unattended. Had to phone 'Sharon' to book. Told a site was no problem. Arrived on site the following evening at 6pm as arranged. Again, no-one in Reception to greet us. Phoned once again. Told to go on the site and find our on pitch. Went down the site past piles of smelling rubbish and ancient unkept caravans obviously long term stayers. Had to drive round twice to find a pitch. No structure to the camping with tents, caravans cars placed anywhere and no site management available. Finally had to park between two caravans with a 2 foot gap either side. Occupents either side not happy but fully understood our predicament and made us comfortable. On leaving next morning we found the Reception was manned by the Site Owner. I made my feelings known regarding his abysmal site only to be greeted by complete indifference. Final salt in the wound was to be told they did not accept debit cards (in 2018???). In summary the site is far from an inviting start to anyone visiting the area from afar. The whole site needs a revamp, proper management and less of the 'cram them in and make money' philosophy. Will try The Stryne site next up the road nearer Borrowash. Looked great with marked pitches with river views.

Recently brought a new caravan so wanted somewhere local to try out our new caravan and awning for the weekend. Travelled 20 mins up the road from home to this site, somewhere we had never been before but past many times. Wasn't expecting much, other than clean facilities and a pub with good food within walking distance. I have to say we got both and couldn't complain. This site has a very laid back atmosphere, Yes you may have to find your own way to a pitch, but its not rocket science, a lot of the people on this site are either permanently sited or long term stayers. Everyone was friendly and Colin who runs the site was lovely, The facilities were good, a lot better than some ive come across and the local pub up the road (10-15min walk) Harrington Arms does lovely food at reasonable prices. Elvaston Castle Steam Ralley was on this particular weekend, but we decided to walk into Shardlow approx. 3 mile to go watch the football instead. Because we enjoyed it we are looking at returning this weekend just for a night to visit Elvaston Castle's Food Festival... A Friendly, Clean and Basic retreat 20mins from home, what more could you ask for.

We have been to this site several times before and had to look on the web site for the phone number,we read the reviews and it made us feel uneasy,On arrival John met us and took us to our pitch very nice and patient was very helpful. The toilets and showers were very clean.although the male toilets had no paper, this all changed when the proper cleaner came back off holiday, the toilets and showers became immaculate.Money does need to be spent on the place, but the people we met were very friendly and had a very happy weekend ,would defiantly go again
