Michelham Priory is lovely, well worth a visit, with friendly and informative staff. Both inside and out there is a lot to see.

The experience is a little uneven in places though. The cafe was very disappointing this time - hard, stale scones, described by my mum as "the Rock of Gibraltar", and terrible bacon baps - the cheapest possible bread and stringy bacon. I did complain and got a polite apology but no offer of a refund.

The wartime exhibition is interesting, but the examples of weekly rations look as though they came from the 2nd Workd War - new examples definitely needed.

The shop does not hang together in terms of themes, just a mixture of bits and pieces.

It soes seem a bit mean to complain, but standards do need to be high to match the interesting surroundings.

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Michelham Priory. You have highlighted some of the areas in which there was a need for improvement, and we fully agree with your comments. You will be pleased to know that all of these issues have been addressed over the closed winter period.
The cafe is now under new management, and has been completely refurbished - we hope that this year's visitors will find it a huge improvement. Good quality products and customer service is firmly at the forefront.
You will also be glad to know that the WW2 rations have been replaced, and can be found in our new activity kitchen - they look very real!
The shop is currently being overhauled with the help of a retail consultant, so we hope it will now enhance our visitors' experience.
I hope you get a chance to return one day and see the changes for yourself.
