“Lovely way to spend an afternoon”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

We did one of the Groupon offers, which basically gives you a free tea for the price of admission. Must admit that although the house was ok, with plenty to see, it didn't really grab me. However, the grounds and atmosphere were wonderful. We felt really relaxed after wandering around the gardens and moat. Lots of little places to discover, the iron age huts, the rope museum etc. Being Sussex Archaeology it was very child friendly. Hats off to them, they do this sort of thing very well.

“Surprisingly Good”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

I must admit when I first arrived I thought that it would not be that interesting and would be a short visit, However I was very surprised.

I started with lunch in the cafe which was very clean and the food very tasty and well presented.

The house was unusually interesting with quite a few displays which as long as you were very careful some could be handled. There was also an opportunity to dress up in some old clothes of the period which allowed for some funny photos.

There were some nice trails around the grounds and gardens and there was some a archery taking place on the large lawn, with even a chance for adults and children to have a go.

In the afternoon there was a chance to visit a working watermill on site.

I would definitely recommend a visit.

“Beautifully Preserved”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

Michelham Priory is a beautifully preserved building from around 1229 A.D. Lovely furniture in many rooms, tapestries, a haunted space and a lovely garden and lake. The day that we visited, thee was a display of period crafts and skills. There were the old round, hide covered boats, old style wood lathes, birds of prey, rope making and more. There is a fine gift shop, a restaurant and washrooms. The entry gate is also quite a striking feature.

“Calm peaceful beautiful and interesting”
Reviewed 25 May 2014 via mobile

Admittedly it was a perfect sunny day at the end of May to set it all off, but this really is a most perfect example of an English medieval priory in the most beautiful of surroundings. Add to that the archers in traditional clothes practicing on the lawns, and an interesting interior with much information plus a cream tea sitting at the provided tables over looking the lake (moat) and recommend it highly. Building well maintained, volunteers friendly and a reasonable entrance fee made us think better than the well publicised nearby National Trust properties.

“Don't book a Party here”
Reviewed 24 May 2014 via mobile

This venue isn't fit for purpose if you're wanting an evening party or wedding reception party. The reason being is that your DJ/Disco has to plug in to the venues sound limiter which is compressed at 85db - you can talk louder - hence the music is no more than background music = zero atmosphere. Avoid evening 'entertainment' at all costs if you want a decent party.
