“Lovely Setting”
Reviewed 31 May 2011

Just come back from a two night stay at Homewood Park, we found the hotel to be very relaxing, loved the spa and the gardens are beautiful. The hotel does seem slightly understaffed, but this maybe due to the holding group (Von Essen) going into administration. The evening meal we had there the first night was excellent, but abit rich for my partner so we went to the local pub (The Red Lion) the following night which was very good as well. Breakfast was okay but not brillant.
Darren the bar manager was a good laugh and put us on the right track for the park and ride system for Bath City centre, which you really need to do as the city centre is very bad for private cars. We were up graded on arrival to a family suite which was like having your
own private flat. Everything in the suite was clear and apart from a slight delay in cleaning our room one day (again short staffed) we had no complaints.
The hotel seems to welcome animals and if my wife had her way we would of brought back one of the cats from the hotel.

Arrived at Homewood Park and no body to greet us at the door, we were confused as to where reception was as there was no clear signage., also receptionist didn't tell us anything about the hotel.
on the plus side we were upgraded to a suite, it all looked good on first glance but closer inspection, found a few stray hairs in the bathroom, the tiles could do with grouting, beside the bed there was a coffee stain splattered on the wall, seemed to have been there a while.
Dinner
for dinner we were greeted at reception and taken to the bar/waiting area before being seated, our waiter was a really friendly guy who seemed to be running around alot (think they were short staffed) the food was of a really good standard, even though it looked small on the plate it was very filling
Breakfast
I was looking forward to breakfast, the toast arrived but no butter, we asked for butter but when nothing arrived after 10 minutes we had to pinch on off one of the tables. I asked for a full english with scrambled egg, the egg didn't look apetizing and i asked for a poached one instead, my full english arrived back in a bowl....who has a fry up served in a bowl? by this time i had lost my apetite and was waiting for the waiter to come by to refresh our coffee, they never did, my husband and I were so fraustrated at this point. to cut a long story short, the service at breakfast was appalling, the tables around us weren't cleared, and i personally felt the waiters could at least put on a clean apron. all in all very disappointed
The Spa
the Spa was the best part of our stay, great sauna, steam and hydro pool left us feeling really relaxed.

Decided to have a night away with my hubby.
When we drove up, the place is gorgeous. Shame the carpark is a bit of a walk from the house, but we found out that we could have driven up to the front of the hotel and unloaded if we wanted.
The room.... WOW.... I think it was one of the Junior Suites., on the first floor with views over the gardens, Huge and spacious.
The Dinner... double wow.. it was delicious and the staff were lovely and friendly.
we never made it to the Spa, but it looked fabulous.
I know I am spouting superlative after superlative but this place was wonderful. Will definatly be back..

I've been lucky enough to stay in a lot of lovely hotels, but never before have I spontaneously changed my plans so that I could stay an extra night. Service was a little slow in the morning but our meetings went well, with simple, well presented food for lunch and great cuisine in the evening. All the team said they had slept well. The cats were a very welcome distraction on the occasion they came to say hello.

Lovely hotel, very relaxed with excellent service. Large rear facing bedroom over the top of the spa to the beautiful view of the valley beyound. Huge to level ensuite with roll top bath on one and large shower on upper. Bed was large and very comfortable. Returant was very clean and tidy, service very good, food excellent bordering on Mitchelin level, maybe a touch overpriced. Would return at the drop of a hat.

Having read some of the comments on TripAdviser, we were a little worried about our stay. We needn't have worried, we were on a special winter deal and received a complimentary upgrade to a de-luxe room. The service was exceptional , nothing was too much trouble.
The food was outstanding, although the 3 course evening meal was a little expensive. Much of the hotel has been refurbished, furnishings and fittings are all most tasteful. The new spa was wonderful, especially the hydrotherapy pool.
Our only criticism was the internet access, which was poor even in the public rooms.
