“Birthday treat for girlfriend”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

I did not actually get to see the restaurant, but feel I should review the pub. I took a girlfriend for a Birthday treat tea. I must say that the bar needs some TLC and also a bit of good old dusting of the spindle chairs . However the tea was very nice , the cakes tasted home made and the sandwiches were okay. Delicious scones, but a little larger pot of tea would be good or a jug of hot water. The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing and not at all pretentious. The staff were also very nice and very helpful to our needs with out any fuss. I also like the fact that they offered to put any cakes that we could not manage to eat in a little pot to take home, which I thought was a really nice touch. So all in all a good afternoon was had.

“On The Off Chance”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

After Planning to eat somewhere else we wound up here. The restaurant had a few people seated and eating. We noticed a table that was reserved so asked at the bar for a table they said the reserved table had been gone for about 2 hours and we could have that table. We then ordered drinks and when asked for a fruit for a young child they didn't have anything suitable. We ordered our food and over an hour later we were the only people in the restaurant our food finally arrived one meal was a burger that still had blood running and was not acceptable. The side salad was luke-warm and tasted disgusting. Whilst waiting for our food 4 tables left by the time we left nearly 3 hours after arriving none of the tables had been cleared...
- Very Slow Service
- Unacceptable Food
- No Suitable Drinks For Children
- Poor Customer Service
- Poor Presentation

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014

Not many reviews but most are ok so maybe we were unlucky. Visited Saturday evening. Very large bar & tables area and small separate restaurant 7 / 8 tables. Three of us, 2 starters: Garlic Bread (very insipid with something smeared on it, not garlic bread as you know it); Whitebait was ok. 2 Rump steaks and 1 Mixed grill. All steaks very tough and 2 inedible and with a strange "pesto like" sauce(?) all around the plates which did not go with the meat at all. Normal knives were ineffective and we had to ask for steak knives. Comment from pub staff was "this can happen" but was "very unusual as they use a local butcher". Anyway steaks were replaced and staff asked if they were ok and they were "ok" without being great. Not sure if it was meat quality or cooking. There is only one choice of steak (Rump) which is a cheaper cut and can be tough so it was a wrong choice (suggest offer Serloin / Rib-eye / Fillet??). Service very slow on quite a quiet evening. When we left about 10pm we had to find someone to settle the bill and the large bar area was deserted, on a Saturday night.....nobody asked if everything had been alright.
