Maple Tree Guesthouse
Ranked #3 of 4 Gretna B&B and Inns
Reviewed 3 October 2011

'Lorraineonthemove' has already said everything so well - what more can I add, other than my thanks and highest recommendation to others.

Thank you Gillian and co for adding the icing on to a truly magical weekend away. Our family were up for a wedding; having never been to Gretna before, we were a bit uncertain as to what to expect. We need not have worried!

The Maple Tree is a credit to its owners. We wanted for nothing. The hotel is scrupiously clean, warm and friendly. Everything you could possibly need has already been thought about in advance. The cooked breakfast was faultless and set us all up really well for the rest of the day. We are looking forward to many more trips over the border in the months to come - wedding, or no wedding!

I would also add, the people of Gretna are some of the warmest, most welcoming I have ever met, nothing is too much trouble, and there is a smile, and hello everywhere you go. Leave the car, and get out walking! D:)

Gillian is so friendly and welcoming and from the moment you step in through the door of the Maple Tree you are made to feel right at home.

Our room was reasonably spacious and very comfortable, with lovely decor. We had a family room (1 Double Bed & 1 Single Bed) and a small sofa to relax or read a book.

The Beds were comfortable with clean, fresh and warm bedding. The wall mounted TV was at a perfect angle to enjoy late night viewing from the comfort of your bed. Plenty of Tea/Coffee, milk & sugar which was topped up daily and the water was lovely for brewing the tea! (There was even sachet of hot chocolate for our son)

The en suite was spotlessly clean and the towels were clean, fresh and felt so soft. The shower was fantastic with great water pressure and always hot water.

The dining room is lovely and spacious and bright with lovely natural daylight, which makes your breakfast even more appealing. There is also a huge widescreen TV on in the background, which is nice to catch up on the news and weather before you travel.

Breakfast is served between 8am – 9am. You have a variety of cereals and juices to choose from along with the Full Scottish Breakfast served with hot toast, tea/coffee, jam and marmalade. You will not leave hungry, I guarantee it!!!

Gretna has an Outlet Village with a good selection of shops from Jewellery, shoe, Men’s and Ladies boutiques, as well as the usual gift shops. Not much for older kids though but you could easily spend 1 – 2 hours here before they get bored.

About a mile up the road you’ll reach Gretna Green, with the World Famous Old Blacksmith's Shop and Museum. Again you could spend 2 – 3 hours here just browsing though the gift shops or just taking in the beautiful surroundings with unusual sculptures scattered about the place. There is also a playground here for the ‘wee ones’ to entertain themselves.

We came to Gretna to attend a family wedding and the overall experience was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Maple Tree B&B. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here, especially for a romantic getaway or a base for exploring the Dumfries and Galloway area.

Thank you once again to Gillian and her family for making our stay so memorable, warm and relaxed.

We had a fantastic stay in Gretna at Maple Tree Guest House, it was truely first class all the way. Robin and Gill are great patrons, nothing was too much trouble. The location is fantastic, as a stop off to the highlands of Scotland, or the beautiful hidden gem that is the west coast. We will definately stay again, but for longer next time.

Room Tip: The family room has the best view of the Solway

From the moment you arrive you are greeted by friendly people, the accomdation looks spotless, we had the family room, which was made up of one double bed and two singles. The bathroom was clean and looked new. Towels was included as was tea and coffee. We stopped two nights and the room was restocked with clean towels and tea and coffee. The breakfast was really good, nothing was too much trouble. Both kids (aged 5 and 2) really enjoyed their stay. Would stop here again and would highly recommend it.

Suitated in the ideal location just off the M6 for wedding parties or any other purpose. The room was comfortable, well appointed and spotlessly clean. Service was excellent and the hosts very helpful and friendly for finding your way around. The freshly cooked breakfast was delicious and the dining room doubled as communal space. We had a loverly stay and would recommend to our friends and family
