having just returned to hunter lodge 15years after getting married from there, we were very dissapointed at the appearance of the place, our "delux" room was shabby, dirty and un inviting, the bedisde cabinets had obviously not been moved out for hoovering for some time, the dressing table stool legs were filthy, the window sill not dusted for a while, the loo seat was stained yellow and the room smelt and felt damp. The food was however as good as we remembered.
Linda the host was very friendly and warm.

Our first stop in Scotland on touring holiday. very welcoming, fairly large room in the annexe, clean and well presented. Great food in the bar and breakfast was superb. Very reasonably priced considering it was school holidays. Would stay again and definetly recommended.

Had a wedding in Gretna Green ideal base for the shopping and local attractions.

First impression's unloved outside,needs cigarettes clearing away from staff,all the flowers were dead in basket,borders etc signage dated from the 1970's gravel was present at the rear car park once upon a time however full of potholes.and we had the FEAR OF DREAD!!
Staff (owner) a bit rude when first arriving we arrived 15mins earlier before check in time after a long journey and we were told to leave and go and visit the shopping centre!! all we wanted to do was to say hi were here!! and if possible seen as though the place was empty please could we have a pot of tea?? didn't get chance to ask!!!
So we had to trail round to find somewhere.
We went back to be shown our rooms, great size,beds.....
downside :
needs a full rewire
rubbish under the bedside cabinets crisp packets etc
main bedroom window was leaking due to the rain
bathroom wasn't cleaned properly loads of muck under the bathmat!
cheap toilet roll
sinks has toothpaste around the basin
dusty tables,tv,tv stand etc
dressing table has no power point near it
fan way to noisy in the bathroom guests in the room next to us said they could hear it
staff come into the room the 1st morning whilst we were having breakfast to collect towels (uninformed that they do this i assumed end of stay)
girls that serve breakfast/meals could do with smiling!
downstairs lounge area toilets musty needs upgrading

Good points:
Good base to attractions
lovely food 5*
Atmosphere was lovely in the breakfast area
tea and coffee making facilities were good
Perfect area to go shopping!!!
Overall would i stay again.......... no i would go to one of the other b&b's hotels on the road and get my money's worth.Wish i did my research better!


family all enjoyed their stay due to having more modern up to date rooms and had plugs in the right places and was rewired and CLEAN!! be ours wasn't!!! :((
