Double bed mattress very poor not comfy at all even my son said he could feel the springs on his and the z bed mattress was paper thin . No shower in room .The room was so dated paint chipped around door frames wallpapered ceilings all woodwork yellow , tv to small dated furnishings kettle was dangerous wired into a light switch ummmmm I think this is some not right do you. And all for a little steap £110 ???????not bad is it for a room of this standard .O did say to the young lad the next morning and he did say he would pass on to the management . Can I just say this revue is a honest opinion and the last thing is the junction box on the wall is not a good idea above a bed as you to tell me is this safe. #firehazzard . Where to start in response.

I'll deal with the inaccuracies first:

The kettle is not wired into a light fitting, because as you rightly state this is dangerous, not even sure why you would say that.

There is no junction box (not sure what that is anyway) there is as you have shown in a picture a switched socket with an extension lead that has the TV and your Ipod plugged into it. When we fold out the Futon yes this appears above the Futon, but Fire hazzard - no - again where do you get this thought from.

The futon is a futon, mattresses are not the thickest I admit, but it is designed for a small child.

One of your pictures shows the access panel in the bathroom to the hot water cylinder for maintenance, not sure why this is an issue.

Now onto the comments I can respond to:

The chipped paint - yes we have been a little remiss in keeping on top of the chips, caused by suitcases banging against the door frame, so I apologise for this.

The mattress - probably the biggest issue we have is finding mattresses that suit all, in this case maybe the time for a replacement is due.

The TV - The Freeview TV's were installed before we went digital, so for a while they were almost state of the art, now of course even kids have 28" TV's in their bedrooms and we now have 10 very good TV's that do not keep pace with what you have at home.

The furnishings are in keeping with an older style building, are pine and not offensive I dont think.

Wall paper on the ceiling - again its reflective of an older building, but I really think we are searching for anything to complain about if you find papered ceilings an issue.

Bath - Our website clearly states that some of our rooms have bath en-suites, the location of our hot water cylinders would make a shower inoperable.

The price - We have as advertised found a way to squeeze a fold out bed into a room permitting a family of 4 somewhere to sleep together without the expense of having 2 rooms. We do acknowledge its a bit cramped but four people can sleep and have breakfast at just over £25 a head including VAT.

I am happy to receive accurate feedback, but when I first read this review I honestly thought it was about somewhere else.

I hope anybody reading this review will disregard the inaccuracies that make us sound like a fire waiting to happen.

Thank you

Stayed one night between days at Alton Towers, the staff were very friendly but that was the only positive. The family room was right at the top of stairs so constant traffic from others going to their rooms and above the bar from which you could hear all the conversations. Mattress was poor on double bed and room smelt of damp, overall not a good experience.

Room Tip: Family room cramped and above bar so lots of noise until closing time.

I am sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us. The hotel is an old building, we do try to emphasise this, so old as opposed to tired would be a fairer description as we are constantly redecorating and upgrading the furnishings.

One of the furnishing recently upgraded was the bed, so the mattress is relatively new, but maybe not the same as your own bed.

Yes the family rooms are a little cramped with 4 people in, but we believe we are offering a cheaper stay for 4 in one room instead of 2 rooms of 2 by squeezing a Futon in for the odd night.

Your room is above a bar, which was in use on Saturday Night, and yes you may have heard some noise until about midnight, I know personally all other guests were in their rooms by time we left the building at just after midnight, so to be fair you would not have had any further disturbances after this time.

Staying in a hotel will never be like staying in your own home, the bed is different, the local noises are different, and sharing in a room of 4 is going to have an impact, that doesn't mean we are offering a sub-standard stay. Thank you

Needed to be in Foston for a morning meeting and found the hotel on the internet. On arrival was made very welcome and check-in was quick and easy. Room was adequate with tea and coffee making facilities available only thing missing was a shower but the building being what it is did not have the height for one. The bar and food available was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely use this place again in the future.

Thank you for your review.

We have 10 bedrooms, 6 with showers and 4 in a separate cottage that have a bath only. You are correct that due to the ceiling height in this cottage there is no ability to install a shower. We would only allocate this room if the main hotel building was full, so hopefully next time you will have a shower
