“Lovely cottage, great location”
Reviewed 22 October 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Had a great week at Gorse Cottage in a group of three adults and one family (two adults, two young children). The cottage was a good size for that sort of group. It is in a great location, beautiful views, lots to do in the area (beaches, Doolin, horse riding, Wild Atlantic Way). Gorse Cottage is well equipped both for cooking and relaxing and helpfully has children's toys and swings. The kitchen could perhaps do with a few more large serving dishes but basically has all you need for self-catering. Very helpful and friendly owner. I would definitely recommend and hope to stay again.

Thanks so much for your lovely review. It's always great to hear when our guests have a good holiday. I'm glad you mentioned all the great things to do in the area. We often get people wanting to book for one or two nights and our first response is.....why not stay for a bit longer. Doolin really is a great base for discovering the west of Ireland.

P.S. Thanks for the suggestions on larger serving dishes. We've added some more. Look forward to having your lovely party visiting again soon.

“Great Cottage in Great location”
Reviewed 5 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We stayed as a group of 8, it was perfect. Night life fantastic in nearby Doolin, every pub has traditional Irish live music, the restaurants are some of the best in Ireland. We used a local Mini bus driver Sean to get us about all together who was great, and very reasonable, took us everywhere! The kitchen is great for entertaining at home, and local farmers markets for fresh local produce. Lisdoonvarna not far away also has great pubs and restaurants. The cottage has two wood burners, very cosy if you want to curl up with a good book, the views are amazing from the cottage too.

“An excellent base”
Reviewed 9 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

A group of eight of us stayed at Gorse Cottage for the week beginning August 30th, 2014.

The facilities were generally excellent (though I've already suggested to the owner that it's necessary to replace the mattresses in one of the twin-bedded rooms). The cottage's location is fantastic and it is a wonderful base for visits to attractions around County Clare, a short voyage to the Aran Islands or a day-trip to Galway.

One of our party immediately fell in love with the ponies in the adjacent field and used up the entire Clare carrot stock in feeding them.

The cottage is 45 minutes walk from the nearest pub (McDermott's) and restaurant (Roadford House). McDermott's pub is not 1km. away, as stated in the description, but a good two miles or so. Equally, The Roadside Tavern is not 4km. away, but getting on for 5 miles.

There are no decent food shops in either Doolin or Lisdoonvarna. The nearest supermarket is Supervalu in Ennistymon.

All told, we had a wonderful time at the cottage and would highly recommend it, but do be aware of its distance from the centre of Doolin

Liked best: The views at dusk - wonderful sunsets.
Liked least: The fact that it was much further from local amenities than the cottage's description suggested.

Thanks so much for your review. I've updated the house description to be a bit more clear on distances as we were quoting different distances at different sections of the site. According to AA site the house is 1.7 miles or 3km form Mc Ganns pub in Doolin, and 3.1 miles or 5km from the Roadside Tavern in Lisdoonvarna. The drive into Mc Gann's (Doolin) really is a very quick run along a good straight road with lovely scenic views.

“Perfect Irish Holiday”
Reviewed 4 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Staying at Gorse Cottage absolutely made our whole trip fabulous. There were 10 of us and the house was so spacious it certainly did not feel like there were that many in the house. The view is simply spectacular. We also were very lucky and had great weather!! Staying in Doolin is the perfect point to travel an hour in several directions and see so much. Cindy's father Ted who is in the house next door is quite the charmer and so very helpful. Please go down to the pubs to hear him sing-just lovely! The cottage had everything you require to make your own meals etc and there is nothing like sitting on the bench out front looking at the cliffs of Moher, the sea and the horses in the front garden. The Doolin Cave, Aillwee Cave, The Burren, Cliffs of Moher and Burren Perfumery are all great places to visit. A vehicle is a definite must and it took no time at all to learn to driver on the "other" side of the road. I can\t say enough wonderful things about staying at this treasured location. Hopefully my pictures will say it all! Thanks to Cindy and Ted for a great experience in Doolin!

Thanks so much for this lovely review. It's really warming to hear about your holiday and that your party enjoyed the house and location. We have just come back from the house ourselves, and, this year we are recommending surfing at Lahinch (10 euros to rent a board and a wet suit) and kayaking at White Strand (15 euros to rent a kayak for 1.5 hours, and only 10 euros for repeat visits!).

“Great views, roomy, and comfoartable...(with a few caveats)”
Reviewed 1 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Looking to book a cottage for 6 adults on the west coast of Ireland, our search brought us to Gorse Cottage and it worked out very well. Located equidistant from the main streets of Doolin and the nearest grocery store in Lidoonvarna, the cottage is a bit secluded but not so far away from the towns that you feel isolated. Great views of Galway Bay and the Cliffs of Moher can be found from the upstairs bedrooms and the yard (and also from the kitchen windows if someone would attend to the overgrowth outside.)and the surrounding farmland is also quite lovely. An easy walk down the road will lead you to a view of The Burren's amazing stone formations making this a scenic locale. Two living spaces and a large kitchen area provides room for family togetherness or to find your own quiet space. Beds were comfortable, more so than many other rentals I've stayed at, and the bathrooms were modern with good water pressure. Heating system takes a bit of mastering but works well and cool damp nights can also be warmed up with a nice peat fire in two fireplaces. Lovely artwork throughout the house by one of the owners adds a nice element to the home and was much appreciated by this guest. The owner's father, Ted, lives right up the hill from this house and can be a great resource for information when and if needed.
Now for the caveats:
If you do a lot of your own cooking, be advised that while the steel pots are in good shape, but the non-stick frying pans that were once non-stick no longer fit this description. No blender and less than adequate items like peelers can make for some kitchen q adventures.
The TV and CD player are ancient by today's standards. (Two remotes one for just volume?) While this is not of vital importance, a better set up would be beneficial on a cold rainy night. Particularly when you combine this with a portable 3G mobile station with a limit on data, so streaming to replace the weak entertainment choices available can be a problem.
All in all, the house suited our needs and while I did have a few issues, it proved to be a good choice for our family.

Great to hear you had a good stay. All visitor feedback is very important to us as we really set our sights on ensuring that all of our guests have a first class stay. We have already resolved the smaller points you mentioned (frying pans and veg peeler) and I would ask any future guests to make sure they report any similar small inconveniences to Ted who lives next door and will replace any faulty items as quickly as possible (the kettle recently stopped working and he sent in his own kettle while a new one was being sourced!). There is a hand held food blender (mouli) which I hope you found. We'd also like to reassure guests that the internet signal at the house is generally very good, however based on this feedback we are considering if we can remove the one-off 10 euro top-up contribution request for guests that use more than 2Gb per week. Thanks.

“Unforgettable New years visit, perfect setting, good friends and tunes!”

We stayed at Gorse Cottage to celebrate New Years and it was the perfect cottage for us, we were a group of ten, 25-27 year old's. We wanted somewhere where we could sit by the fire, make dinner, have a few drinks and play a few tunes. This cottage catered perfectly for all of this. It was a pleasant surprise when we found out the owners father (who lives just up the hill) is a brilliant and well known, local musician and singer. We asked him to come over on New Years Eve, which he did, and we all played guitar and sang songs together, it added so much to our visit, absolutely brilliant.
The cottage itself is absolutely spotless and is very tasteful, it also has everything you could possibly need for cooking, cleaning etc. It caters perfectly for large groups and is very spacious. The setting is picture perfect and on a clear night, the amount of stars you can see in incredible! I'd recommend this cottage to anyone- We hope to return again in the Summer for some more tunes!!
