Quirky is the most appropriate word to descibe our recent stay in this beautiful part of Ireland. Friendly family run hotel with 16 diverse rooms half way between Lisdoonvarna and Doolin. Its a great location to experience the best County Clare has to offer. The breakfast and evening meal were very good quality and the craic in the quaint residence bar was great. We'll be back.

Room Tip: The rooms in the older part of the building offer a more unique experience to what you'll find i...

Stayed in this wonderful hotel for weekend with friends. The hotel is family run and from the minute
you walk into the reception you know you are in for a treat. The bedroom was old world and quirky and bed was really comfortable. The food was amazing and Celia and staff were extremely hospitable and helpful. Before leaving Declan gave us a tour of the castle beside the hotel which dates back to the 13th Century. Would definitely recommend staying there.

We only stayed one night (our last night in Ireland) but it was perfect for us! Yes, the castle is actually right next door on the property, but we were given a very nice, detailed tour of it. You must go during sunlight as it is an actually ruin. We were able to climb to the very top, but it is definitely not for people with disabilities. After our tour we had dinner in the hotel restaurant...a delicious meal with a good bottle of wine! We were upgraded to a room with 4-poster bed. Very nice with all antique furniture. The view to the ocean was pretty but the hotel is pretty far back from the actual ocean. I could see it in the far distance. The hotel was quiet and has its own bar. No need to drive back into Doolin! Also a convenient 1 hr drive to Shannon airport. Thanks to Dennis and Cecelia for bringing us a tray of goodies the night before since we had an early flight and missed breakfast! Very accommodating. We also enjoyed speaking with Dennis' dad who owned this hotel as did his father before him. I believe it is 3 generations old. Nicely updated.

My husband and his mother picked the Ballinalacken Castle for the great views it advertised. I was sadly disappointed with the extremely high price and the lace of view- we had to press up against the window to barely see more than a farm field. The ruins which appear to be on the property for guests to visit are actually next door with a big 'no trespassing' sign and gate blocking the view of it. My breakfast (plain eggs) came out tasting like vinegar. On top of that, we left the do not disturb sign on the door for the day only to return to find they had made up the room, moving things I had left out on the bed and in the bath room and opened the windows (first floor ground access). I was very unhappy to know a stranger had handled my pajamas and toothbrush! Do NOT DISTURB means don’t come in, right?

My husband and I came to Ireland for our second honeymoon. We chose to stay at the Ballinalacken Castle hotel due to its proximity to the Cliffs of Mohr. The castle hotel is so close to the cliffs, you can see them off in the distance from the rooms. The staff were very friendly, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. We didn't eat dinner here, but w did enjoy the breakfast. They had the beast breakfast we had during our trip, their pancakes/creeps were amazing! I would definitely recommend staying here.

My husband and I (with another couple) stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of our 2 week vacation in Ireland........It was a delightful choice by Russell Shortt, owner of Exploring Ireland who helped design our self driving tour. It was magical !!! It 's a magnificant drive up to the hotel itself with lovely meadow views, full of flowers, well groomed plants, with views of the castle adjacant to hotel. ( We were given a complimentary tour of castle by Cecelia's husband who did a terrific job with historical & interesting information ; it's in very good condition !)

Our room was spacious with all amenities included; we were near the back garden which was perfectly fine . I did notice other rooms walking down the halls, some with extraordinary views and furnishings. Ours was comfortable but it would have been interesting to see other choices for rooms.. It is a well run, quiet , and spacious hotel ; blessed with good weather, we were able to take long leisurely walks to nearby areas.......Sheep, green pastures, and breathtaking scenery abound

The cuisine is superb; our breakfasts were abundant, beautifully served in an enchanting intimate dinigh room with high windows ; again, with lovely views. We had a dear young Irish woman as our server (sorry I forgot her name) who made our morning with her sweet smile and sparkling eyes.. We chose to dine there our first night and it was well worth the reasonable price....All fresh produce & meat/fish/etc ; all were finely prepared and served. We celebrated a birthday with a creme brulee which we enjoyed by the fire in the cozy lobby with irish coffees. Perfect day.

It's excellently located to tour the Aran islands, Cliffs of Moher, with local pubs in Doolin
which are perfect for authentic Irish music and pub fare.

We would all love to return.

Russell Shortt of Exploring Ireland made an excellent choice for our first hotel !!!

Cecelia, the hotel owner, was charming; she was helpful, extremely courteous and full of suggestions. I am particularly grateful to her as she mailed a forgotten pair of good shoes to another b & b where we were going to stay. It was costly and time consuming to do so and she asked for nothing in return. Extraordinarity generrous and worth noting.

Room Tip: Inquire as to choice of room size with varying views

From entering the drive and seeing the castle in the hotel grounds , to looking over the fields to the sea and the Aran islands with the sun setting , to a wonderful dinner with local ingredients , to sleeping in a 4 poster and having s eating area overlooking the view - this has to be a winning formula . And to join all these pluses up - great friendly staff and a unique ruined castle tour . Close to Doolin harbour and the Burren Hills as well as the amazing coast road north to Galway. Highly recommended

Room Tip: the room with 4 poster ( 8 ) was great
