We booked this online as a one night stay near the Cliffs of Moher and Doolin. My wife and I enjoyed the stay and would like to return for a longer one. The hotel has a bit of charm with the ancient castle house out back, and getting a private tour of the castle was a highlight. More than that, however, the room was comfortable, there is a small pub, and the owner and staff were fun to talk to. The restaurant offered remarkably good food- very fresh and well presented meals, so you don't have to leave the hotel to go for dinner. Also if you want to walk (or run like I did!) a pathway through the Burren, this is a good starting point. Highly recommended.

We stayed for two nights at this hotel with our two sons. The staff could not have been more helpful and kind. The best thing about this hotel is its setting - right in a huge wildflower meadow, buttercups, clover and even orchids while we were there! Our boys loved being able to tumble around in the long grass and roll down the hills.
The view of the sea and the Aran Islands is stunning and we watched the sun set over the atlantic on both evenings. For hikers, The Green Road is right outside the gate and one can walk 15km to Ballyvaughan, much of which is traffic-less.
The creamy seafood chowder was delicious. Breakfasts all seemed fine. The staff were helpful with catering for my coeliac son who requires a gluten free diet.
The owner did an interesting tour of the derelict castle beside the hotel - not for those afraid of heights!
The only negative things I can think of are: The traditional music being played in the dining room and bar - a bit more variation would have been nice - there's plenty good Irish music to choose from. But I understand that most of the clientele aren't Irish so they probably don't mind!
Also the rooms were quite dark maybe brighter decor might help.
Overall we had a lovely peaceful and enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: There are rooms dating back to the 1840s which look brighter and more comfortable. The modern rooms...

I've been working in Cork periodically, and for this weekend, we chose a visit to the Cliffs of Moher and a stay at this hotel. It was quaint, cozy and comfortable, and the food was wonderful. Truly the best Irish brown bread and raisin scones I think I have had in all my visits to Ireland over the years. The staff was very friendly, and we even got a tour of the castle onsite. You can forget about internet access, but that is not always a bad thing. We played cards in the parlor after dinner until we were ready to go to bed. Our room had two chairs and a table in a bay window, with a view out to the Aran Islands. The area was rustic and unspoiled... just beautiful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!

If you want a four star hotel for spas and pools then forget it, But if you want genuine hospitality with quality food, staff who care that you have an excellent experience, cleanliness and lovely views to the Atlantic Ocean and the Aran Islands then this is the place for you. It is a little out of the way and the Sat Nav can get confused, but once you have found it, it is genuinely worth the effort. The food is all locally sourced and prepared to perfection and owners who care, and are around 95% of the time. Visiting its castle is an interesting experience. Our four night stay was most enjoyable.

Room Tip: We were allocated room 7 the Ocean view room with four poster bed and two windows giving views acros...

We stayed at Ballinalacken on our anniversary, and while challenging to find, it turned out to be an awesome experience. The room we had was at the end of the hall. It had a sitting room that overlooked the hills and water. Spectacular. Sitting in the morning with a cup of coffee, watching the outdoors - how much better can it get? The room itself was large, and very comfortable. The whole place was quite large and beautifully decorated. You could see the amount of effort the owners put into the place. Breakfast was very good, and afterwards, we were given a tour of their castle. It was very interesting to hear the history of the place and actually get inside a castle. Overall, this was a memorable experience. I would recommend they offer better directions.

Room Tip: Ask for the end room with the sitting room

We stayed one night at the hotel and was impressed with almost everything. The hotel is located north of the Cliffs of Moher and is not real easy to find but it was worth it as we had a good time. When we pulled up a elderly gentleman was in the driveway along with one or two other cars. I didn't know if I was in the right place and he assured me that I was, come to find out he was the owner whose parents bought the home and castle in 1929. The hotel is operated by his son and daughter in law and 2 other employees and a chef.. It's a big undertaking but they do pretty well.
The room was big and had just great bedding, very comfortable king sized bed along with a nice bathroom with a towel heater. It was chilly and that was my one complaint, my wife had to walk down to the reception and advise them and they promptly took care of this. We had dinner in the dining room by ourselves and it was delightful, bottle of good wine and the chef prepared John Dory and my wife had the seafood mixture and it was excellent. We then went to the bar and had a nightcap. Declan, the owners son had been our waiter and also leu bartender and he was a great conversationalist. While we were having the nightcap, I looked out the window at the 11th century castle that sits beside the hotel and a white horse was standing there looking royal. Quite a fitting close to the day. Declan also does the castle tours when it is not raining, it was that evening. The next morning we had a breakfast, hand cooked in the restaurant and also had fruits and cereals and juices on a buffet, this was included in the room. Thanks Declan and Cecelia, hope to see you again.

We spent four wonderful nights at Ballinalacken Castle in April, myself and a family of three including an eight year old child. The rooms were spacious, the beds extremely comfortable, the showers powerful. The breakfast was fantastic and we enjoyed dinner three nights. The food was delicious and the service amazing. There is a small bar with pub feel. The views were exceptional. The castle is interesting, ask for a tour. We enjoyed our stay so much we are returning in July with more family.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view are wonderful. I enjoyed waking up and seeing the Cliffs of Moer and Aran Islands...
