This was my second stay at Ballinalacken Castle. I took a group with me and they were more than pleased with everything about the hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food is hearty, wholesome and delicious. The family who operate the Castle are so accommodating and friendly. The location is the best for visiting all the "must see" sights in County Clare, as the ferry to the Aran Islands, the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren are all very close by. I highly recommend a stay at Ballinalacken Castle. You will not be disappointed.

We recently stayed at Ballinalacken Castle - when I say we I mean 28 of us. Declan and staff could not have been more accommodating. We were all made to feel at home. The food was excellent and plentiful. You must ask for a tour of the castle and definitely tour the caves. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend staying here!

From the moment you walk in the door you will be immersed in nothing less than great hospitality, elegant furnishings & amazing views. Ballinalacken is located in a convenient location near the heart of Doolin & the Cliffs of Moher. The breakfasts and dinners at Ballinalacken rank only with finest in area dining. We were blown away by this place! Don't forget to get your free private tour of the castle and learn of it's history. Simply amazing!

Room Tip: Simply call and talk to the owners Declan & Cecelia. All their rooms are great.

Our gang just returned from the Ballinalacken. My husband, daughter and I are return guests, and we had 2 of our daughter's friends with us. They loved it there! They raved about their breakfasts, dinners and the gorgeous scenery. Now they wish they were still there! We especially enjoyed the hospitality of the O'Callaghans and their staff. Declan and Cecilia can't do enough for you, are so kind, and will help you truly enjoy what this beautiful Burren area has to offer. Our dinners were fabulous a la Michael Foley and staff. We all enjoyed the cajun salmon and rack of lamb immensely. Rooms are very comfortable here and most have spectacular scenic views. We were lucky enough to have great weather while we were there. A few nights we had gorgeous sunsets, so many of the guests were out with Declan taking photos. They have a small, intimate pub. If you're lucky enough to meet Denis, the patriarch, you can have some lovely conversations with him about the area and the history. Everybody in our group had a wonderful time. Can't wait to return. Highly recommended if you're traveling in this area of Ireland. Thanks to all at the Ballinalacken!

We booked this online as a one night stay near the Cliffs of Moher and Doolin. My wife and I enjoyed the stay and would like to return for a longer one. The hotel has a bit of charm with the ancient castle house out back, and getting a private tour of the castle was a highlight. More than that, however, the room was comfortable, there is a small pub, and the owner and staff were fun to talk to. The restaurant offered remarkably good food- very fresh and well presented meals, so you don't have to leave the hotel to go for dinner. Also if you want to walk (or run like I did!) a pathway through the Burren, this is a good starting point. Highly recommended.

We stayed for two nights at this hotel with our two sons. The staff could not have been more helpful and kind. The best thing about this hotel is its setting - right in a huge wildflower meadow, buttercups, clover and even orchids while we were there! Our boys loved being able to tumble around in the long grass and roll down the hills.
The view of the sea and the Aran Islands is stunning and we watched the sun set over the atlantic on both evenings. For hikers, The Green Road is right outside the gate and one can walk 15km to Ballyvaughan, much of which is traffic-less.
The creamy seafood chowder was delicious. Breakfasts all seemed fine. The staff were helpful with catering for my coeliac son who requires a gluten free diet.
The owner did an interesting tour of the derelict castle beside the hotel - not for those afraid of heights!
The only negative things I can think of are: The traditional music being played in the dining room and bar - a bit more variation would have been nice - there's plenty good Irish music to choose from. But I understand that most of the clientele aren't Irish so they probably don't mind!
Also the rooms were quite dark maybe brighter decor might help.
Overall we had a lovely peaceful and enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: There are rooms dating back to the 1840s which look brighter and more comfortable. The modern rooms...

I've been working in Cork periodically, and for this weekend, we chose a visit to the Cliffs of Moher and a stay at this hotel. It was quaint, cozy and comfortable, and the food was wonderful. Truly the best Irish brown bread and raisin scones I think I have had in all my visits to Ireland over the years. The staff was very friendly, and we even got a tour of the castle onsite. You can forget about internet access, but that is not always a bad thing. We played cards in the parlor after dinner until we were ready to go to bed. Our room had two chairs and a table in a bay window, with a view out to the Aran Islands. The area was rustic and unspoiled... just beautiful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!
