Amazing hosts for an amazing home. Attention to detail is superb and it was a perfect home base for us to explore county clare. Doolin is a wonderful community with great little shops and lively pubs - music every night! There's a number for Dennis the cab driver in the phone Ann leaves at the house - Dennis is wonderful and aided in our desire to get our drink on while in town. Ann & Colon are extraordinary hosts and have created a place of relaxation for their guests. The view is breathtaking as are the locals - we felt so welcome and at home. Enjoy!!!
Gentian Cottage served as our Irish Heritage family get together. We rented the cottage for a month and couldn't have been happier. We would not hesitate a minute to go back. Ann & Colin are two perfect hosts and attentive to all details. They are so accommodating and helpful in any questions about the area, things to see and do, places to go. The cottage has all the amenities to make your vacation simple and convenient.
We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend the holiday. Ann was the world's best host--we arrived at the cottage to hot spiced wine and a Christmas tree and went into Doolin for Christmas Eve mass at the local church and dinner at a pub. After a rainy Christmas (and a cold jump in the ocean) the weather was surprisingly warm and sunny for the coast of Ireland and we spent the week exploring the Burren, taking long walks and cooking dinners in Ann's generous kitchen. Later in the week Ann and her son took us for a tour of the castle ruins on the property. I can't recommend Ann and her cozy cottage enough!
This was a really nice cottage with great views of the ocean. We were there for a wedding so there was a large group of us and this cottage was perfect. There were 3 bedrooms, which each had its own bathroom, which was great for privacy, and there was also a 4th bathroom. It was in a good location about 10 minutes away from Doolin and close to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. A few things to consider if you're going to stay there: 1) You will need to rent a car or arrange for some sort of transportation because there is no public transportation that would take you into town. 2) The amount we paid was affected by how much electricity we used so they had it set up so the heater only came on a few hours a day. Consequently our bedroom was very cold. I think we could have turned it on more if we wanted to but that whole thing was something that was a little unusual compared to what we're used to in America. 3)We also had to supply our own toilet paper once we used up the initial rolls that were in there and the stores in Doolin don't stay open very late.
Just back from a one week stay in Gentian Cottage and I would highly recommend this beautiful home away from home in a stunning location. The cottage is more house size but with a cottage feel. It was spotlessly clean and had everything you could think of. The entrance hall is very welcoming and leads to a fabulous living and kitchen area. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and laid out. The living area is comfy and homely with a lovely open fire and 3 windows giving fabulous views across the Burren, down to the Cliffs and way out to the Aran Isalands and as far as Conemara. You really couldn't grow tired of that view, the beautiful sunsets and changing skies that we watched each evening. Upstairs there were 3 great size bedrooms, all with ensuite and plenty of storage space. The immedaiate surroundings of the cottage are lovely too. There is a well maintained garden with seating and a table. The roads closeby are remote and great for a morning or evening walk. Walkers go past at different times of the day as it is a Green Road but the beauty of staying in the cottage means you can even do a short walk which suited us with small kids. Our neighbours for the week were the cows who regularly looked curiously over the fence at us which was a real novelty for our boys. The owner Ann is just lovely - very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. She also made lots of great recommendations of what we could do in the area - the tea rooms at Ballyvaughan was a particularly good recommendation! The cottage is a few miles outside Doolin and only a 5-10 minute drive. Taxis are available for the odd night out in the characteristic and bustling pubs and restaurants of Doolin. The location means it is well placed for discovering the other attractions and towns of North Clare and the Burren and further afield. Although we are form Ireland and have visited quite a few of our beautiful counties, we really fell in love with Clare and it's lovely people and way of life. There really is something magical about it and if you want somewhere a little special to stay and where you will feel relaxed and at home as soon as you walk in the door, you should choose Gentian Cottage!

My husband, two daughters and I made our first trip ever to Ireland in June. What a wonderful experience! The Gentian Cottage was the perfect home away from home. The house is so beautiful, more than we ever dreamed of, so spacious and tastefully designed with all modern conveniences. Our host, Ann, was so helpful and so fun loving. Having an ancient castle with an adorable white horse grazing quietly next door was a delight; especially the private tour of the castle! And it was close to the Cliffs and the Burren, not to mention the quaint little villages just waiting to be explored. Our Irish experience at the Gentian Cottage was a dream of a lifetime. Ann is the perfect ambassador of her lovely country. We can't wait to connect again soon!
I would highly recommend this property. Beautiful home with everything you could need in it. Great location for touring. There were 8 of us staying in the house and we had lots of space. Looking out at the Aran islands at night time was the highlight for me. Ideal place if you need a nice relaxing break. Can't wait to go back there.
