“Get Me Back To Doolin”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

I couldn't have selected a better place to lodge in Doolin. Anthony was a wonderful host and even offered me a potential pair of shoes after mine got destroyed by the hike along the Cliffs of Moher. And the view! There's no place as tranquil as a morning in Doolin, with cows grazing right down the street. And also, the Doolin Hostel is right along the trodden path of Galway tour buses. Make sure you tell the tour guide to leave you in Doolin. And go to O'Connors and order a Smithy's. You won't regret it.

Dear Mark
It was a pleasure to read your review this morning and your recommendations for future guests as so much is missed when traveling by tour bus. Its best to stop and overnight in the west of Ireland and get to experience and feel what Ireland has to offer and where the pace of live is more relaxed and locals have time to chat.

But do bring a pair of walking / hiking shoes :-) for the Cliffs of Moher Hiking Trail (although most of it is a gravel path, there is one short muddy bit) the experience is so much more than just the visitor center and then there are the views, especially the sunsets over the Aran Islands are breathtaking.

Hope you found a good pair of shoes in Galway and had a safe trip home.

Warmest regards
Anthony

Doolin Hostel was as others have said, so much more that a hostel. The cafe on hand, the plentyful hot water, the bright clean atmosphere, the really lovely helpful staff! and the continental breakfast which took all the stress out of the mornings. Such great Value, it was a hostel with a hotel feel to it! I am already looking for dates to return in August!!

Room Tip: specifiy your numbers travelling togther - if they can they can fit you in one room with a bathroom...

Dear Vicki

Delighted you had a wonderful time with us in Doolin and I hope your son was feeling better for the trip home. Thank you for your praise and that you found the hostel such great value and that you enjoyed our continental breakfast so much. With all the activities you can do in the area we believe its important to have a good breakfast with slow releasing energy food to keep you going.

I look forward to seeing you all again in the summer.

Warmest regards
Anthony

We visited County Clare to meet up with friends from Ireland; escape the rat race for a weekend and take in Ireland's culture and idyllic scenery. We started at Bunratty Castle, not too far from Shannon airport then made our way to Doolin which was about an hour's drive away. We were greeted by the owner, Anthony who was warm, welcoming and supplied us with a map highlighting the local attractions and of course - the pubs!
The rooms were clean with an en suite, towels for each guest, beautiful views of Doolin and we all commented on how comfy the beds were and a great night's sleep we had; hence why we missed breakfast!! This wasn't a problem, as they have a cafe with a variety of snacks we could buy.
As we got talking to Anthony (who by the way, is very easy on the eye - sorry Mrs M....we all had a bit of a crush) he discussed his plans to make the hostel even better and he showed interest in all his guests suggesting places to visit and things to do.
The hostel is centrally located - about a minute from the nearest pub, there's bus stop is right outside and its en route to the Cliffs of Moher - which are spectacular!!
We had a fabulous time and we all have raved about Doolin to friends and family...we can't wait go back again. If you're looking a value for money, cosy place to stay which feels like a home than a hostel - I can't recommend this place more highly.

We came to Doolin to go exploring as a small party of girls. The hostel was a perfect base for us as it's quite central to everything and not far at all from the Cliffs of Moher. The owner put is in two rooms together and made sure we were going to be as good as gold for the other guests, and quite rightly so.

Very clean rooms and comfortable beds. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. We weren't up early enough to sample the breakfast unfortunately.

I fell in love with Doolin. I wish we could be together forever!

See you again..

Dear Scribblehead

It was a pleasure to have you stay with us and it was much appreciated that you understood and respected our wishes. We do our best to maximize the comfort for both individual guests and groups by allocating them to different sections of the hostel, keeping like with like and only doing one group at a time plus not accepting parties such as stags, hens and similar drinking parties. As we really want all guests to enjoy their stay with us as much as possible.
You and your friends where the perfect guests and I really enjoyed having you stay with us and hope we will meet again in the not too distant future.

Warmest regards
Anthony

I found this to be a really enjoyable experience for a family of four children , ranging from 8 to 16. Very affordable, comfortable, spotlessly clean. Friendly staff, and extremely helpful management. This is a great weekend away for an Irish family. Doolin and cliffs of Moher are unique.

Dear Hetty

It was a great to read your review this morning and trilled you and your family enjoyed your stay with us so much and that you enjoyed the convenience hosteling offers families. With kitchen, laundry, large living areas to relax in and with family rooms for up to 6 sharing one room with Double bed and bunk beds ensuite. It really makes hosteling more affordable as often two rooms are needed if staying in a hotel or other accommodation types which can make it very expensive.

I really enjoyed our conversations and having your family stay with us and best of luck in the new business venture.

Warmest regards
Anthony

We arrived a little early, but they welcomed us right in with a pot of tea and a promise to get our room ready first. Whenever we needed suggestions for dining or directions, the owner Anthony was happy to oblige! And when we returned he wanted to know how our experience was! Anytime he was around, he was joy to chat with! They have a great kitchen for preparing your own meals, a small café and a living room with a peat fire going. Super cozy! The rooms are minimalist, but perfect for your sleeping, bath and end of the day needs! It's close to the village center (check out Gus O'Connor's for great music and amazing food) and there is no curfew, like other many hostels require. We would most definitely stay there again!
