The actual boat trip boarding was an absolute shambles at both ends ie mainland and Aran Is.

We were due to depart at 11am, so were at the jetty in plenty of time, ferry turns up, but it belongs to another operator, not that we were told, there is no information passed out, nor people advising what is going on, nor any form of announcement. So eventually another boat turns up, we start boarding (in a chaotic manner, ie no lines its a free for all) and finally depart at 11.35, arriving at Aran at 12.05.

We took a tour of the island and back to board for the 2pm departure. A boat was there but was not ours, again no information, no signboard, no one there to advise as to what is going on, you work it out from deduction and waiting in the wrong lines until you get to the head of the line to be told, no you are on another boat.

Our boat arrives at 2.30 for boarding - THE WORST PART OF THIS WAS THAT AS WE ARRIVED LATE WE RUSHED SAW PART OF THE ISLAND AND THEN HEADED TO THE JETTY FOR THE RETURN 2PM DEPARTURE, IF WE WERE TOLD OR IF THERE WAS AN INFORMATION BOARD OR ANNOUNCEMENT WE COULD HAVE SEEN THE REST OF THE ISLAND - But this was an absolute shambles.

The return trip via the Moher cliffs was excellent, a pity that sever lack of organisation but the vessel operator screwed up the day.

If you want to waste time and get frustrated used O'Brien.

Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable review and we are sorry that your experience did not live up to the standards we strive for.

Unfortunatley the experience you described can sometimes happen under the current conditions we operate under at Doolin Pier. The pier is very small, accessible only in high tides, and can only accommodate one ferry at a time for boarding passengers. Especially in the summer months when a high volume of people visit the Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher, delays can be the case.

Fortunately we expect many of these issues to be resolved with the completion of the new pier currently under construction in Doolin. This will allow for more ferries to board at the same time, and in all tidal conditions. We are also told we will have better signage and facilities. Under the current rules we are unable to put up any signage or instructional postings at all. The local county council has all control and say in regards to these issues in every capacity at Doolin Pier.

We have shared your comments with our staff and do take everything on board. We hope you get the opportunity to visit us again when many of these improvements are completed.

All the best,

Liam O'Brien

Our boat was delayed coming from the islands, but well worth the wait. Seeing the cliffs from the sea was spectacular.

We thoroughly enjoyed the ferry to the island. I would recommend this to anyone. Also, make sure you take the tour of the cliffs. It was the favorite of my wife and I. You can't truly appreciate the enormity of the cliffs until you are at the base of them looking up. Lastly, the chance to view the thousands of birds that nest in the cliffs cannot be matched.

We booked the tour and arrived at the pier half an hour before take off, we were told at 12 to step aside that a bus tour of Germans were arriving and they were to get priority seating. The coverage was in German too, never ever again.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, we do appreciate any and all feedback.

Unfortunatley the situation you describe does not seem to apply to our ferry service. It is very confusing in Doolin with many ferries travelling in and out. The services often and easily get confused with one another.

We do not actually offer any German Translations on our cruises or ferry services at this time. Though perhaps that is something we will look into in the future. Also sometimes when groups do travel they are all usually boarded together, as the Tour guide can be sure he/she has all of her travellers accounted for. When you do board our ferries, passengers are free to move about above and below deck as they choose. There are no assigned seats as such.

Again we are sorry to hear about your experience but can also be positive that that did not take place on our Cruise Services. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back sometime and improve upon your first experience.

If you go to the west coast of Ireland and you don't see the Aran Islands your missing the best kept secret. The fast ferries are safe, fun and the only way to get there. The Islands are like a trip but in time with all the great things you like about Ireland, food, pints and friendly people.
