“great place for lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

My wife & I were taking a day tour to the Cliffs with Extreme Ireland Day tours. They stopped by here for lunch. She ordered the vegetarian plate that had the puff pastry & chips. I ordered the Irish Stew. The place was not crowded other than all those on our touring bus. We were slightly put off as we were one of the 1st to order but probably the last to be served in our group - but this happened a few other times during our stay in Ireland so maybe the vegetarian dishes were taking much longer to prepare? I'm not sure.
Nonetheless, we enjoyed our meal. The Irish stew was amazing. The stew had great flavor & the beef was tender. I have to say that I've never had finer tasting potatoes than during our 10-day trip in Ireland & this place had some of the best tasting potatoes in the stew - it has amazing texture & flavor without being bland or overpowering. My wife said that her lunch was very enjoyable as well. The table next to us had ordered the fish & chips - the fish was unbattered - it looked so fresh & awesome. I was looking at their food thinking that I should have ordered the fish but once I took a bite of my stew, I quickly forgot.
I am still curious how good their fish & chips tasted. Throughout the remainder of our trip, we tried to find another restaurant that served the fish & chips the same way - unbattered but never found it & were sad. The prices were reasonable & the food was delicious. I would recommend. I am not sure how it is at night for dinner.

Ate here 2 nights in a row. Great pub food, friendly staff , great music and sound system. The only annoyance is that they have tables reserved which seems to be a silly idea in a pub. People walking in every few minutes being offered what's left of the seats. Tables reserved , seem to remain vacant half the evening. Only criticism I have. Otherwise the best pub on doolin.

We stayed at the nearby Aille River Hostel, and one of the highlights of the trip and definitely the best music of the 2 1/2 week trip was at McGann's. If only I could remember the name of the guitar player, who had come over from Dublin with his daughter! She looked about 10 years old, and she sang one song with the voice of an angel. He was an amazing guitar player who played on the evening of July 3.

Had a family night away
Visited McGanns for food and to listen to traditional music.
From the time of ordering it was 1hr and 52mins before we received our food.
The children's food was crisp and overcooked.
The main course was served without a veg portion as on the menu
The food was anything but tasty and so disappointing.
Had eaten earlier in the day in O Connors pub which was top class.

We walked from our b&b and were pleasantly surprised with the great pub atmosphere and very quality dinner. Their Caesar salad was excellent, their burger was great, fish and chips were crispy and Guinness wad perfectly poured. The music started later and was some of the best on the trip. Their was a rowdy stag party but surprisingly it added to the charm instead of taking away.

We visited this pub for a brief lunch during a quick stop in Doolin after a tour of the Cliffs of Moher. McGann's serves great food. The service is swift and the staff friendly. Decent prices on top make this a place well worth visiting.
