I've lived in Cramlington for almost 30 years and Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens is just up the road. Plus my employer has a Corporate Membership of EH, so why hadn't I been before? No idea but one thing is certain I'll be going again. The guy in the entrance/gift shop Kyle was lovely and explained quite a bit for us as first time visitors. Yes, the Hall could have done with a bit more information but I found it charming that they've left it in the unfurnished state. The walk through and back to The Castle through Quarry Gardens was gorgeous, really beautifully kept plants (a theme of the whole place!) and very atmospheric! Yes, 'The Castle' is small but interesting and the views of the grounds from the roof-top are glorious. Wine and Preserves tasting in the gift shop was fun and tasty too. All-in-all a real treat and a gem of a place!
