We went for a spa day. I was a little disappointed that the swimming pool was separate from the spa /gym/tennis courts. No walking about in a robe like other spas! Although we still had a lovely day. The swimming pool/steam/sauna was compact but clean. Could have done with flatbeds and outdoor beds. The spa area was relaxing, the therapists excellent. We had lunch in the pavilion restaurant, good food, excellent service. I would go again as the price for the day for 3 treatments, lunch and all facilities was very good.

My wife and I, together with our Son and his partner, stayed here for 2 nights in 2 manor rooms from the 15th July.

We found the hotel communal areas to be very interesting and of a good standard and the staff were friendly and generally efficient. We would have liked a little more input regarding meal timings and location of facilities upon arrival and we feel a little more attention could be given to guests seated on the rear terrace; we had to walk inside and order from the bar every time we wanted drinks as there was a lack of anyone servicing outside to take orders.

The breakfast offering was of a good quality but it was surprising to see additional charges for simple items such as kippers or eggs benedict at a hotel of this quality. Some of the staff at breakfast were very slow at removing cleared crockery from the table and appeared a little lethargic in general. Dinner was somewhat a different affair starting well with aperitifs and canapés in the bar. Service was very good and the food was well presented and of excellent quality, well done.

The rooms were spacious with most amenities except perhaps a kettle and simple drinks. It really is painful as a guest to have to order a single cup of coffee for delivery to the room which usually arrives when the moment has passed, which is why we didn't order any.

Some of the blinds in our room were damaged by water, presumably condensation, and looked rather unsightly, some paint was pealing from the window frames and the bed headboard was soiled from previous guests heads! I think some attention needs to be given to these type of issues which should not be present in a hotel of this type and quality.

The grounds are very nicely presented and the walk around the golf course is very picturesque and is a great way to spend a couple of hours burning off a hearty breakfast or lunch.

The golf course itself is very well designed and maintained and it was a pleasure to play on a course without being rushed or held up, we will definitely play again at some point.

Our stay overall was very enjoyable and we will definitely stay again at some point, however I feel the issues I have raised in this review should not be present in a hotel of this standard and price point.

This is THE place to go for a classic and amazing English afternoon tea in beautiful surroundings. Lovely dining area, and the food did not disappoint. Sometimes I wonder whether I will have enough to eat on an afternoon tea but this one certainly filled me up! The sandwiches were top notch - ham and mustard (I don't normally like mustard but these were amazing!!), egg mayo (perfumed with dill maybe? - these were so tasty!), smoked salmon and cream cheese, and cucumber (having never tried a sandwich just with cucumber in it I was pleasantly surprised!). There was a great selection of cakes ranging from chocolate to raspberry as well as a sort of lemon posset. We also got 2 beautiful scones each with plenty of jam and clotted cream, delicious! We were also offered a nice selection of teas though I stuck to standard English Breakfast! We could have done with a little more milk as we only had one jug between four of us but this is only a minor detail as we got some when we asked for more. Staff went out of their way to make our time here special as we were celebrating a birthday and we were able to take home the cakes we didn't eat there as we were too full! We then went round the stunning grounds and played a bit of croquet on the lawn. There is also a giant chess board! It was an extremely pleasant afternoon and I wouldn't hesitate to return here again.

Went on an overnight spa weekend with 5 friends. We stayed in one of the cottages which was perfect for us as we could hang out in the living room and the rooms were lovely. The breakfast and dinner were also very good in the hotel.

The spa itself is very nice and the standard of treatments good. The spa is a short walk from the main house, which is where the pool is. This isn't bad in of itself. The changing rooms are small however and feel crowded with just 3 of us changing.

What i didn't like - hence the review heading - is that the check-in is a late one, 3pm. And to make it worse, our cottage was not ready till 4.30pm which is quite a long time after check-in. The receptionist was particularly unhelpful, if not rude, when we enquired if the cottage was ready - she didn't offer any explanation other than a late checkout (and my friends had been told this at 1130am and told it was a priority in terms of clean up. When I walked to the cottage at 4pm, after my treatment, I got the housekeeping staff who were also rude and just said it was being cleaned - no apologies).

When we did complain, the duty manager during the day came out and was clearly braced for a difficult conversation - this could all have been avoided if the receptionist was more pleasant and if they had handled it differently.

Anyway, the night duty manager was excellent and couldn't have taken better care of us. We also got a complimentary bottle of wine.

And then in the morning of check-out, again, the same receptionist - and our bill was messed up. Not her fault but the spas apparently.

In short, a great hotel, great location but some of the service was not 5*.

Room Tip: If in a group, I would recommend the cottages - there are only 2 of them though.

We came here to celebrate a friend's Birthday and it was the perfect country retreat! The service was excellent along with the food and the house itself is beautiful! Our dog came with us and they had made all the arrangements for her to settle in as comfortably as we did including a treat!

The grounds are a delight to stroll around and some of us participated in the falconry. Would definitely return for another delightful Winters break!

We got married here in July 2007 (I now, years ago - but I've only just registered on trip advisor!)
We could not fault the service we received from beginning to end. We were married in the Orangery on a Monday (a lot cheaper if you are on a budget!) and had a lovely small wedding breakfast in a cosy room with a huge oval table. The food was fantastic. We could not afford the bridal suite but were upgraded there anyway due to a plumbing problem in the room we had already booked! Overall a fantastic start to married life!

Room Tip: The bridal suite is beautiful! Split over two floors with amazing views over the fields and sheep!

We came here as a group of four, about a week ago, for afternoon tea to celebrate my 30th birthday.
From beginning to end, our experience at Stapleford Park was just wonderful.

The first thing to mention is the magnificent setting. The house is set in stunning grounds, surrounded by beautiful, tranquil fields. You know as soon as you’ve arrived that you have come to somewhere special.

We were greeted at reception and led to the beautiful room where they serve the afternoon tea, which had wonderful views of the countryside.

We found that the service was excellent – there were many members of staff around to look after us, and the service was very efficient. A special mention should go to the lady who I think was the manager (I’m sorry, I forgot what her name was), who took the time to come over and talk to us, and was genuine and sincere (unlike at other establishments where you feel that the staff do not care). She ensured that everything was going well, which is definitely was!

The afternoon tea was outstanding. First of all, the sandwiches – these were so delicious. We all agreed that the egg mayonnaise was the best, and wondered how on earth the chef managed to make them so good! The highlight for me were the scones, especially the clotted cream (lovely and thick) and jam (clearly home-made; more like a compote, with large bits of fruit). There was a good selection of other cakes too.

There was a superb selection of teas, and we all tried something different and were very impressed with the lovely flavours. My only slight criticism is that we were only brought one very small jug of milk at a time, so we had to keep asking for more; a larger jug, or maybe one each, would have been better. But, then again, giving out small amounts means that none is wasted.

As a surprise for my birthday, Stapleford Park not only gave me a lovely card, but also a sweet little cuddly toy, and (to top it all off) a plate of extra cakes with ‘Happy Birthday’ written on it in chocolate icing, with a sparkly candle. They did all of this at no extra charge, and it was so nice of them to do all this.

We had a wander around the grounds after the tea – the garden around the back, leading to the restaurant they have there, was so beautiful. You should also pop into the lovely church if you have time.

We has a wonderful time. Thank you so much, Stapleford Park, for such a fantastic birthday afternoon tea.

I would highly recommend this venue for special occasions.
