My wife and I booked this hotel through Hotels.com and, of course, paid in advance. However, after only 4 hours there, we left for another hotel with most of that time spent online looking for a different place to stay. The room we were given was furnished with old, dark brown furnIture that looked as if it had come from a second-hand store although the manager, Stephen, tried to claim it was antique. Overall, the impression was of a 1950s boarding house that had not been refurbished since then. That is ironic in that new carpet was being laid in the lobby and up the stairs when we arrived but it was in an old-fashioned paisley-style design. There being only one tiny armchair in the room, with very little room for our two large suitcases - we were in the area from Australia for a trade fair at the NEC- we sat on the bed. As time passed the our view out the window of the brick wall of the house next door only added to the depression brought on by the dingy nature of the room
On both Tripadvisor and hotels.com the majority of reviews were good so, as the rates were good compared to other hotels in the vicinity of the NEC, we booked it. However the one photo of a room on the hotels.com site showed a bright, white room, totally unlike ours.
The manager was a little annoyed when we said we were leaving but on enquiry through hotels.com the following week he did give us a refund but for only 3 days of a 9-day stay. I'm sure he was able to let the room almost immediately, especially with a major event at the NEC.
The whole experience has made us very wary of online reviews and of websites where you pay the total amount upfront. The only positive thing I can say about the Tudor Court is that there is free wi-fi in the rooms. Oh, one more thing, if you do book there, make sure the room booked is ensuite. We didn't notice when booking that the word ensuite isn't included in all room descriptions. When we left, the manager said that we hadn't specified ensuite but had upgraded us. Upgrade! Ha!
Had we stayed we would never have been "up" sufficiently to face customers at the trade fair.
Our advice is to avoid the Tudor Court at all costs.
