“Superb paradise..”
Reviewed 5 March 2013

I stayed here for one night together with my girlfriend. After a quick 5 minute boatride from Lombok island we were on the resort. And what a resort it is! We really regret only having had the one night to stay here, because we would have loved to stay longer.
The rooms are very clean and spacious, outside showers have hot water and great water pressure. There are also a lot of nice touches such as soap wrapped in banana leaves and fans with remote controls.

It really is a true getaway destination. They are the only resort on the island and so you really feel like a castaway there. They are very environmentally conscious, which is a welcome change to the norm in Indonesia. Water is free of charge and they don't even sell plastic water bottles, you can just refill them as you go along. The food is also really good and the drink are very reasonably priced.

There are lots of activities to choose from. We chose to rent a canoe and snorkelling gear and made our way to a very small uninhabited island in front of the resort which can be reached in about 15 minutes. We explored the island, lay on the beach and went snorkelling in the crystal clear waters. Apparently, some of the nicest dive spots in Lombok can be found in the south, so next time I will definitely try that.

All in all, this is a real unique experience in Lombok and I would recommend it to anyone!

We stayed here for a much needed weekend getaway from the city. It's a twisty turny 1.5 hour drive from the airport plus a short speed boat ride. There's not much to do besides relax, and since the electricity (and hence, the fans) don't operate in dark, we spent most of our days either lounging on the swing bed or in some beach chairs. The beach was nice, and we had quite a bit of fun snorkeling right off shore. As others said, there is a set menu for the day. The food was pretty good, but I do agree that it would be nice for the food to be included in the total price.

I stayed three nights at this wonderful place. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is a great choice. There is no electricity except at night when the fan helped me sleep. The provided mosquito net was essential although I believe most of the year, mosquitoes are not a problem. There are two types of rooms. I stayed in one of the cheaper bamboo cottage which are a few steps farther from the beach. The hammock was my favorite hangout for just enjoying the view or reading. The outdoor bathroom was great and there are plans to extend the thatched roof to actually cover the toilet and sink area so that you don't get soaked during a tropical downpour! The showers will stay under the sun and stars. Snorkeling off the beach was fun and you can rent one of their two kayaks or a canoe to paddle around the area. The staff are friendly and work to keep the facilities up. A pathway up from the beach has recently been added and there are plans to extend the fence on the sides of the property to keep out the cows. In the mean time, they cows were run off once they were noticed although the goats are tolerated. It is all part of the charm of the place.

The options for breakfast were terrific. It is true, there is not much choice in what you are served for lunch or dinner, but the food was all delicious. I told them ahead of time that I was a vegetarian and they always prepared something appropriate for me.

Be ready to entertain yourself and relax, walk around the island, climb the hill for a great view of the other islands, swim, snorkel and enjoy the views and peaceful calm of this tropical get-away. I'm not a diver so can't speak to the scuba opportunities.

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon for just a couple of nights. We had planned to stay for 3 but cut our stay short... There were only 2 reasons for this:

1) unfortunately, there was construction work going on right next door to our bungalow which (daylight demanding..) started at 7.30am each day and went on until 5pm - a real shame as it was so close to the beach on which the resort is situated it could be heard the length of the beach. It was VERY disappointing not to have been warned of this beforehand;

2) the food. I agree with the previous post that this should be included in the rate but also think it would be much preferable at least to offer a range (event 3-4?) different dishes per day/night. The dinners, which were local cuisine, were delicious; the lunches, which were 'european', we're truly woeful.

Other than these 2 important points, the location, beach, corals off shore and at Layar and quiet (outside of construction hours) are wonderful and the staff very helpful and friendly.

Just a few more touches and this place would be ideal...

This is the place to go if you choose to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Remote and quiet. Electricity runs from 6 30 pm to 5 am. There are limited meal options: a 1 course lunch and 2 course dinner. Bring lots of snacks before you come to the island in case you feel hungry after lunch. Lunch costs 35,000 rph and dinner costs 65,000 rph + 15% taxes. I suggest the management add these items into the package as there is really nowhere else to go for meals. Also bring a torch light when walking to the restaurant at night to avoid stepping on cow dung. I like the concept of cows and goats roaming the resort grounds but wouldn't like the idea of stumbling on cow dung during the night. There are isolated patches of corals in front of the resort but you get better snorkelling at Gili Layar.

Room Tip: Get the bungalow cottages instead of bamboo cottages. More shelter from wind and sand.

Had 3 nights here in August. It is truly an island getaway! There is a small fishing village, but there is nothing else there. It was a great start to a holiday-totally able to unwind.
The rooms were beautiful, loved the outdoor bathroom!!
Food and drink choices were limited, but for 3 days that was OK.
Staff were friendly and unobtrusive.

Room Tip: Try the beachside bungalows they are the best!

This is the most tranquil place I’ve been. Easy trip from Jakarta, short flight, 2 hours drive and short boat ride to reach the island. All bungalows are facing the sea and only a few steps away from it, giving us spectacular views even as we lay in bed. No locals coming to sell stuff on the beach, offering total privacy. We stayed here for three nights for diving and snorkeling. We only managed to get the nicer beach bungalow for 1 night because they were fully booked at that time; the other two nights we stayed in the bamboo cottage. The bamboos were of course less comfortable as the price is also cheaper, but turns out it offers more privacy as it’s located further away from the dining area; so fewer guests walk passed by our room. At the end it was a nice trade off, so don’t worry if you can only get the bamboo cottage. For our budget, the meal is a bit pricy but taste average. We were there during the Nyepi holiday, so food supply was a bit interrupted. At that time only nasi goreng or mie goreng for Rp50.000 was offered for lunch options, so we prefer to take our lunch at the owner/ dive guide lodging on the mainland (we suppose it’s under the same ownership/ management). It’s cheaper and tasty, with more variety of local menu options. There was a shuttle boat service to get us to and from the mainland in a nice boat ride view with only 10 minutes. For dinner of course it is more convenient to take it at the resort. The diving and snorkeling sites around here were so-so....not much current so less fish, but means it's okay for beginners. The critters here such as shrimps, and nudibranch, are plenty, so not bad for macro photography. For shore snorkeling, the fish count and variety on this Gili Asahan house reef is far less compared to Gili Air house reef, I must say. We need to get to a boat to reach the better snorkeling site. The owner and the staff were nice and helpful; they can make a special arrangement for snorkeling tour since we don’t want to tag along in the divers boat. There are several dive guides here but unfortunately we always got the younger ones. They tend to be over strict and give excessive warnings. This is good in a way, but when it is too much it put us in stress and could not enjoy the dive. We asked the diver operator to arrange for 1 day trip to Belongas, about 1 hour drive continued with a short boat ride. We took it and were really satisfied. I would recommend it to any advanced divers. We would love to come back here again, but perhaps not with diving/ snorkeling as our main agenda.
