We had an all too short stay at Villa Rosa, it's a beautiful peaceful retreat so close to the beach and with is own infinity pool. A pervious comment referred to like visiting wealthy relatives and I can totally concur.

We've been staying in Villa Rosa for 9 days with a 1 year old baby in March 2013, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is not really a hotel or B&B, instead think of it as visiting some distant well off relatives whom you've never seen before and who happen to leave in a villa on sea shore. They are nice people and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy staying with them. The place is tiny, I believe they have just 3 rooms, two of them connected via common bathroom, so I recon at most they can accomodate two small parties at the same time. When we were there we were the only guests and had the whole place to ourselves. Owners leave in the other wing of the villa and try to not interfere with your holidays while you are on premises. At the same time they are always available and can help you out with whatever you may need. The staff is very nice, and chef Edgar is doing superb job -- while his food is not an elaborate Michelin star level creation, and he is a bit limited by ingredients available in that neck of woods, he does deliver consistently good quality. Go for fresh fish whenever he can procure it.

It is important to set your expectations right though. You are not paying 5* hotel rates, so don't expect 5* level service. While staff is nice and tries to do their best, they are not trained up to that level with that attention to details. So if you don't mind every once in a while remind them to do this or that, then you'll be fine. I'd say you probably get a 4* level here at 3* prices. Not too shabby.

Lets move on to some specific comments and suggestion for improvement. While this list contains quite a bit of criticism, please understand that it is a fabulous place, but there is always room for improvement:

1. There are no proper curtains, only net curtains, so it is quite bright inside when sun is up. During the day net curtains do give you some privacy, but when it is dark outside and you have lights on then you don't have much. That's not too bad though, as two rooms have windows facing the bushes, so only one room is affected, and again since place is tiny there are not many people around. We didn't really mind, except that our little one might have slept better if it was a bit darker. I communicated it to Astrid and hopefully she'll sort it out.

2. There is no proper beach on the premises. Not much can be done about it, just know what to expect. Basically the shore is rocky, there is about two meter drop from ground level to sea level. They have stair going down to the sea, and an artificially created sandy area at the top of the stairs. There is also a gorgeous gazebo next to stairs where you can sit in the shade and enjoy a drink. There is also local beach in 10 minutes walking distance, which is more of a fishing village shore than a proper beach. Fun to visit once to see all the boats and stuff. I'm told there is a proper decent beach about 1km away, but we haven't tried it.

3. Sea is quite shallow for about 300 meters. The seabed is covered with seaweed, star fish, sea urchins (!), so don't walk there barefooted, get some diver shoes. They can rent you out shoes, snorkelling and diving gear too. Snorkelling is a lot of fun though. I don't dive, but from what I hear diving is even better.

4. The drop into the ocean is not protected by any fence, and rocks down below are sharp. If you have small children you may want to take it into account.

5. Wifi reception is a bit bad in the rooms, so do your internet from living room or at pool side.
