We booked this hotel for one night on day of departure last Thursday, stayed one night!
It was exceptional value for money! We had a twin room looking the outskirts of Cheltenham, beautiful view! The room did smell of smoke, however, we had the last one available, therefore, we are not downgrading it! Beggars can't be choosers!
We had dinner there and family joined us for drinks! Very reasonably priced and value for money!
We would have no hesitation in staying there again, far exceeded our expectations!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The room was very clean and comfortable and the bar and restaurant were very inviting. We ate both nights in the restaurant and the staff were very courteous and friendly. Breakfast was excellent with a very choice of hot dishes on the menu. Only complaint we have is that on the one night we were charged for two puddings that we did not have. We asked for the bill to be added to our room and when we checked out we paid the bill as it was about the right amount. When we got home we checked the amount that had been put on the restaurant tab and it was then that we spotted this mistake. This should not have happened and we were a bit annoyed that we were charged for something that we did not have. We will definitely stay here again but next time we will check the bill very carefully.

Thank you so much for taking your time to review our restaurant, we are very pleased you enjoyed our food and restaurant. Our restaurant is usually very busy and mistakes happen however I will pass the feedback to the team so they pay more attention and mistakes like this do not happen again. Thank you once again for your feedback.

* Bedroom – fine in size, with TV and tea/coffee plus great Bronte biscuits from Scotland! However, the intermittent hum of the generator can be heard even when the windows are closed, so don’t stay in room 19 if you're a very light sleeper. Also, the carpet is only just about on the right side of turning manky. There is a small desk to work from, and free wifi that works well.
* Bed – a double bed, even though a single room.
* Bathroom – the bathroom is disproportionately large and has a bath. It is very warm, either because there is underfloor heating, or by happy coincidence the hot water pipes run down the middle!
* Breakfast – the highlight of the stay. Pleasant views, good selection of cereal and juice; and best of all, the hot items are prepared to your order. No turgid scrambled egg drying out under lamps or sausages swimming in fatty trays! I was in a rush and my poached eggs came quickly and perfectly.
* Bar – this is a Greene King, so expect decent real ale options, as well as a select wine list that touches the popular bases. The menu looks like it stretches across a number of Greene King venues but check out the small clipboard of specials here. If my game pie experience is anything to go by, you will not be disappointed.
* Bods – staff are very good here.
* Budget – the rate I got was very good value.
* Back (i.e. would we return?) - Yes, although don’t presume this is a small inn – it is quite a big place – and nor is it remote, being situated on a B road, but the traffic does not disturb. Most confusingly, wherever I was (in room or in the bar), I kept hearing an electronic doorbell ringing and I’ve no idea why.
* Beyond the hotel...I didn’t get time to explore but the hotel claims to be “the highest point in the Cotswolds enjoying views of five counties” and the guestbook featured positive comments from plenty who had stayed 2 nights, so it seems a great base from which to explore.

Have stayed here many times. Usual good quality rooms and facilities. Restaurant and bar area well thought out, great for business or pleasure, priced just right.
Breakfast choice is great- catering for nibblers and workers.
Good choice of real ale.

Room Tip: recommended, rooms on car park side are quieter.

New Year's Eve party:
1) It took 6 phone calls and 2 visits to book the evening. No literature in Reception for New Year. No advertising on their website. Left voicemails 3 times without anyone rang back. We received a voicemail on 30th December asking us to confirm we were going! (but we had already paid £49.95 each)
2) Arrived on time but after buying a drink and asked to wait in the bar area ("somebody will collect you") we then discovered people were walking directly into the restaurant to be fed - we had been forgotten about!
3) Toilets dirty - paper towels overflowing onto the floor in the Ladies
4) Minimal radiators on especially in the hallway and toilets areas - several people looked frozen in their glad rags in the middle of winter
5) First view of the menu (which we should have received when we booked the evening but it was not available). No instructions included that orders for 2x of the courses would be taken by the waiter and the 2nd course was a buffet (very confusing)
6) First course very good
7) Second course = a choice of cold or hot buffets. Hot buffet = chicken, pork, or stuffed pepper. The man serving food seemed very disinclined to serve me a little of all three. Potatoes mashed and cold. Orange veg (not carrots) cold. No green veg. Had to ask for half a ladle of gravy (given very grudgingly). Plates lukewarm. We have eaten at this hotel many times in the last few years - the food has never been as bad as this
8) Dessert: a choice of Irish Tort (chocolate) or a choice of chocolate puddings - i.e. chocolate or chocolate - and we don't like cheese biscuits!
9) £49.95 including an evening meal but we had to pay for the coffee/tea (which had been included in previous years)
Our waiter (male) was excellent and offered honey with lemon tea. However, in the bar area one waitress (not dressed in red) "hid" from all the work behind a pillar for most of the night (on New Year's Eve? with a full house?)
We've been to their NYE parties twice before and they were excellent (haggis on one occasion!) - this was a disorganized shambles worth easily less than £20. This was New Year's Eve - no party hats or crackers as in previous years
The disco for most of the evening sounded like background music and failed to get people going in the party spirit
We noticed that many people (like us) left before midnight.

I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your New Year Eve with us. Surprisingly you seem to be the only residents in amongst 70 + who feels this way about our venue and offer.
