Innkeeper's Lodge Exeter, Clyst St George
Reviewed 8 July 2014 via mobile

Living close by we decided to try this hotel for Sunday lunch having heard that it had changed hands. The service was fantastic and the food excellent. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and staff come across as being very genuine and interested. Would highly recommend this.

Stayed a few weeks ago for one night to break up the journey to Cornwall. Perfectly positioned close to Exeter and the motorway but far enough away to find peace and calm. Massive car park and lovely pub and garden with extremely welcoming staff. Had a meal in the pub which everyone enjoyed apart from the Pimms Eton Mess pudding that looked and tasted like a mix of cream and strawberry Angel Delight topped with a slice of strawberry, there may have been a crumb or two of meringue so sadly this was disappointing but gave us a giggle. The room we stayed in was alongside the car park and was plenty big enough for a family of four and ideal for us. Unfortunately the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night which lead to some distress for the children and a shock for us older folks but thankfully it was a false alarm. We really enjoyed breakfast, three of us opting for a full English which was delicious with plenty of other food to choose from if you were having the continental. Good value stop over.

Stayed here a few times now, each time the service is spectacular. The food is fabulous and a good choice. Only 15 mins from Exeter so easy to drive to and such a bargain priced accommodation with free continental breakfast. We always intend driving to Exeter to shop but on 2 occasions we've just relaxed at the Lodge instead. The accommodation is clean and well maintained, quiet too which is a bonus when you need your sleep (4 children at home), tend to visit just with my husband for the peace. Ian was exceptional, a credit to the establishment, he checked us in last time (Feb 14) he also took our dinner menu, served us and was around to greet us for breakfast and check out. Had a good chat with him at breakfast.

We have just returned from a short stay at St George and Dragon in Clyst Saint George, Exeter.
The countryside was truly quiet and beautiful but the Inn was only average quality. It was clean but a little tired in places. Unfortunately the extract fan was rather noisy in our room, this is only a small but very irritating thing. The staff were helpful and worked hard but we found breakfast rather disappointing. We had to keep asking for food and supplies at the table to be topped up.
Shame........don't think we will book this one again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel for peace and quiet.

arrived to check in by Graham, very smartly dressed and a very nice disposition, very nice to have in this industry, he never stopped working both bar and restaurant and reception.
Showed to our rooms, all fine and staff gave us the things we needed to make the rooms perfect.
Lisa served are food in the evening and Sue. s, served us breakfast and all needs met.

Lovely grounds about an acre for children to play and outside seating!! what a bonus

Quality room very clean and well maintained hotel. The St George and Dragon offered food at 9 pm for around 30 of us which was a mean task in its self with out trouble or fuss.
We stayed for 3 nights and l would stay again without a second thought.

The service was generally good and the room clean and perfectly adequate. As you would expect in an old building, there are some problems with noise when people are moving about but otherwise fine. Very good breakfast. Altogether very good. As always, single rooms are disproportionately expensive.
