Just came back from a EXCELLENT evening at this hotel.
The food was excellent also.
All the staff was more than helpful.
The rooms was clean and tidy.
The views are breath taking the web site picture don't do it justice.
Thanks once again to all the staff :)

I have enjoyed this hotel many times over the last few years but this last time I stay was by far the most relaxing

I have rejoiced in the vast views of the country side while My wife and i spend time walking in the nearby woods

Our room was cleaned to the highest possible standard and beautifully decorated

The night we stayed in the hotel we enjoyed the food that was on offer in the restaurant my wife had the bouillabaisse and I had a rump steak both we're cooked very well
Breakfast was served piping hot and accompanied by french chocolate pastry s which my wife extremely enjoyed

We were checked in and out very well by two lovey lady's a mention must go to Beccy or Rebecca as she was very friendly and helpful

Very much looking forward to our future stays
Thank you very much keep up the magical work

Just had a Christmas group meal, how can a professional Chef plate up a piece of braised beef which looked like a piece of shoe leather.Even the exchanged one was poor.Veg were either so overdone or total hard ie brussel sprouts.Turkey was square ! The piece of salmon was cold.Cheese and biscuits were three tiny pieces of dried out cheese. The christmas pudding was impossible to chew.. The starters were good.

The venue room ,place settings (sorry except for dirty glass and bent fork)and service were good.
Oh dear what a disappiontment

We recently stayed at the Lord Haldon for 2 nights whilst visiting for a family wedding. The Hotel itself is quite old and a bit quirky of sorts but that really gives it its charm. The rooms are basic but clean. I am glad that I looked at the website to get the directions as it is slightly out of the way down very narrow country lanes. The actual setting of the hotel is beautiful but it is very remote. The hotel had been very well decorated with christmas trees and decorations and looked magical in the evenings. Dinner on the evening prior to the wedding was excellent value for money and the portions were huge, far too much. Breakfast was good as well with plenty of choice. The wedding venue was lovely and couldn't have been better during the day with the wedding breakfast meal excellent. During the evening the room was transformed with fairy lights, disco etc and the evening buffet was good too. The female staff were excellent and in particular the waitresses were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the older male staff who seemed grumpy most of the time, however we didn't let that bother us. This hotel has lots of character and in general the staff are very accommodating. I would definately recommend this hotel particularly if you are wanting to get away from it all or planning a wedding.

My husband and I had a one night stay here whilst visiting relatives in August 2012. An 'interesting' drive along extremely narrow, country laneways to find the hotel. (I thought I had programmed our Satnav incorrectly :-) Once we arrived, we were very impressed. A beautiful, older manor house which has a wonderful history. Our room was basic, comfortable with lovely views from our window. No lifts, so be prepared to carry your bags up the stairs, but we found this added to the uniqueness of the place. We had a very nice evening meal in the restaurant and the staff were very attentive and friendly. No complaints and we would visit again.

Reading other reviews here I think we were unlucky with the food - maybe the Chef was away or there was some other issue. If so, Ruth the General Manager did not tell us why it was so bad. We ordered sausages with onions on mash and a Cheese Burger on our first night. The sausages were burnt and the burger underdone. My wife sent the burger back and they cooked a fresh one, this time it was very overdone - to such an extent that you could not eat it. OK they did not charge us for the meal and were very apologetic but it spoilt our first evening. Because of the remote location it is not easy to go out to eat. On the positive side the room was very good and the staff extremely helpful. The hotel has plenty of period features and a nice atmosphere. They did make some excellent sandwiches on our last night - we were not prepared to risk the restaurant again.

When driving to the Hotel I recommend turning off the Sat Nat unless you want to run the risk of driving down a lot of single track lanes - which can be a hair raising experience if you meet a local coming the other way! The best route is to take the A30 and follow the signs for IDE, then Dunchideock, stay on that road and watch out for the Hotel signpost, turn left then left again after the bridge.

Room Tip: Because it is a listed building there is no lift and the staircases are quite steep and narrow, our...

Very nice country hotel but close to Exeter and the M5. Tricky to find but sat navs help with that. Everything you would want - nothing to complain about - and for the price I paid, fantastic value for money.
