Stayed one week at this time share. Weather was not great, but then it was March in the Northwest. Had a two bedroom unit, very large and kept up like new, everything worked. Great exercise room, heated pool and hot tub that was in constant use by other guests.
No grocery stores in Birch Bay, but large ones in Lynden (12 miles), Blaine (about 10 miles), and Bellingham (22 miles). Canadian Border is ten miles away. Went to Richmond, BC, found it not worth the trip as the border crossing was busy, waited in line for one hour and twenty minutes to get back to the USA.
Nice views across the Straits of Georgia when the weather clears.
The Dutch Mother restaurant in downtown Lynden is a good place for food, and they have tasty pies and other bakery products.

We stayed in a 2-bedroom unit on the 4th floor facing the bay. What an incredible hotel. The master bedroom had its own bathroom plus a flat screen tv. Both bedrooms are outfitted with extremely comfortable beds to quickly put you to sleep. The floor plan was great as both bedrooms were far away from each other. The living area has a gas fireplace plus a high definition flat screen, a very comfortable couch and two additional chairs that were great to sit in as the fireplace burned away. There was a round eating table big enough to seat 7. The kitchen was fantastic with its granite countertops, and all the appliance and utensils that you would ever need. On the fifth floor is a wonderful recreation room great for gatherings such as parties with many seats and tables, a long granite countertop bar and huge flatscreen tv. There is also a fireplace and tons of windows to look at the water or golf course. An outdoor heated pool was a real plus. The staff was very friendly. The only bad part of the hotel was that facing the water you also face the street and you could possibly have cars waking you up.

We stayed in one of the three bedroom units that looks over the water, pool and (yes) the street/water. We have a child who loved to be able to watch the pool, and talk about it all day. Later we would go down to the pool. Not much Marco polo, which was nice, and the pool was HEATED!! That was very nice, especially since our nice days here in the NW can be overcast or cooler.

The unit had three bedrooms, and three full bathrooms. There was maid service everyday ($5 per day fee), which kept the clean towels coming. The living room was open to the kitchen which gave it a "great room" feel, this was nice, because you felt like you were with your guests more of the time. The bedrooms were nice, had to maneuver the furniture to accommodate a playpen for the youngest of our group. It was do-able though, easiest in the master suite. The beds were actually comfortable, which seems to be a rarity in condos these days. I think it was because the building was so new.

The beach is mostly muddy sand, so bring your shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Check the shellfish rules and regs, and you could have fresh seafood! http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishcorn.htm

We did overlook the street, but the traffic only goes 25mph, so there was nothing really to bad about that. The only major sounds were at night, the bars nearby.

Avoid the Blue Fish across the street, I heard from the locals that it wasn't good.

This place, the newness and niceness put the WM resort next door to shame. It was worth the stay and we are planning to go there again.

Stayed at Birch Bay for a weekend (July 2007) and enjoyed the homey atmosphere of our room. It was a large 2 bedroom suite which was very comfortable. Everything in the room was new, so new, that there was that constant smell of paint (hope it's disappeared by now).

Great kitchen appliances, nice tv set-up, comfy living room which was also very spacious. We did not eat at the restaurant since the kitchen was well stocked with utensils.

Front desk staff was helpful.

Best feature for our family was the pool. It was smallish but it was fun having an outdoor pool for the kids to enjoy. The beach itself of Birch Bay has sticky, claylike mud which is fun for an occasional walk, but the pool was more inviting.

Had a massage at the spa, Whispers by the Bay, but my masseur, though friendly, seemed unskilled (I have a massage 2ce a month at two different places in Seattle so I have a basis of comparison).

Wish we had a view of the water but got a view of the golf course that was still under construction while we were there.

There's not really that much to do at Birch Bay so it's great having a hotel where one can spend a lot of time to relax.

Overall, I recommend Sandcastle at Birch Bay for an enjoyable family stay.

Wonderful place to stay for Spring Break. It was the most unbelievable CLEAN place I have ever stayed. The girls were cleaning something all of the time.
Rooms were very nice. Book a ocean view room for sure.
We will be back again next year.

This was our first time to Birch Bay and to the Sandcastle resort. The first thing you notice is that this is a brand new resort, and its located right on the beach overlooking beautiful Birch Bay.

The interior decor of the lobby was warm and pleasing with overstuffed furniture and warm tones. The resort isnt huge and you can find your way around very easily. Staff was friendly and were eager to help.

We easily found our room. We booked a 4th floor ocean view. The rooms were wonderful! Granite countertops, full kitchens with stainless steel appliances, all the glassware and cooking implements were included. They had a plasma TV over the fireplace as well. The master suite was seperate from the living area. And the pleasing warm tones were carried out in the rooms.

They have 2 resturants on site. There is Shores that is a full service sit down resturant w/a bar and patio with views of the bay. The food was quite good...try the crabcakes! Service was alittle slow even though they werent busy. The second is a coffee shop called Tradewinds. It was good and offered many specialty coffees, sandwiches, soups and many pasteries all made in house. They have a patio as well and it was great to sit out there in the morning with a latte and a sticky bun. They also sell many peices from local artists in the cafe, so it was nice to browse.

The Sandcastle has a decent pool area that is glassed in on the ground floor which enables you to sit in the hottub and watch the sunset over the ocean. Did this afew times and it was lovely!!! The outdoor shower was a nice touch.

They have a small gym with all the basic equipment and a plasma TV. I thought it was quite well done. Very clean and neat.

The one thing I noticed was how clean this resort was! Always somebody mantianing the floors, the bathrooms. We never had a problem with housekeeping.

We enjoy walking and there is lots of that to do in this area! When the tide goes out you can walk for miles on the beach, beautiful hard sand...no rocks accept near the shorline. Birch Bay State Park is located a short drive away and the walking trails are beautiful! We also noticed alot of people clamming when the tide was out, will have to try that next time!

The best part of this resort however is the SPA! Whisper on the Bay. It is located just off the lobby on the main floor. We booked 2 massages and I had a pedicure. They treated us like royalty from the minute we walked in till the minute we left. We changed into our robes, enjoyed the steam room and the wonderful relaxation area before our treatments. The pedicure was the best I have ever had! Very relaxing and enjoyable. The therepists were very friendly. Ive been to spas where all they want to do is sell you product and push it on you the whole time. Not here! All they want you to do is relax and be comfortable. The spa is a must and I cant wait to return!

All in all it was a lovely trip. I know they want to make this resort a timeshare only but I really hope they keep some rooms available to rent out.

We will be returning again next summer to this wonderful ocean getaway!
